Oriented with a northerly aspect towards the living areas, the home evokes a sense of grandeur from every angle
Classic is always in fashion. Classic cars, classic clothing, classic homes. Creating a house with the right curb appeal will increase value not just for the owner, but also the community. And choosing an architectural style that works is very important when designing and building a home.
In this instance, the team at Medallion Homes constructed an archetypal dwelling. “We wanted to create a classically styled home that would sit comfortably within the established suburbs of Adelaide,” explains Steve Sinclair, marketing manager of Medallion Homes. “And, of course, include all the modern conveniences.” Inspired by the majestic old villas of the inner-Adelaide suburbs, Steve envisioned creating an equally grand dwelling, fitted out with luxurious and highly functional furnishings and fittings.
For Medallion Homes, the journey is a fundamental element of the design process and the Medallion Homes team works closely with clients to achieve the desired outlook. This particular project is a display home, so the design team worked hard to create a habitat that encapsulated what Medallion Homes is about — a spotlessly designed home built with impeccable detail and care.
Oriented with a northerly aspect towards the living areas, the home evokes a sense of grandeur from every angle. It comprises two indoor entertaining areas located at opposite ends of the house (the dining and family rooms); an elongated meals and cooking area complete with a butler’s pantry located in the centre of the house; four bedrooms, the master with a luxurious colossal dressing room and ensuite; a second bathroom; verandah; pool and an enclosed double garage with a Panellift door.
All rooms feature a warm and inviting colour palette of nudes, creams, taupes and beiges. Medallion Homes wanted the display house to feel like a home and was able to achieve this through the incorporation of a simple, yet elegant, colour scheme.
The polished cross-cut travertine flooring found in the entrance hall and the meals area is a dramatic and stylish inclusion, perfect as the flooring choice for the entrance as it immediately creates a feeling of sumptuousness as you step into the home. The raised ceiling in the entrance foyer further encapsulates the classic and opulent ambience.
Clever design works hand in hand with the furnishings chosen for this classic display home. The kitchen offers sleek design and optimum functionality — the cluster of silver pendants over the island bench and Essastone New Sable Luxe splashback and benchtops accentuate the contemporary style, while the Miele appliances, including integrated fridge and freezer units, epitomise the correlation between functionality and good design. The butler’s pantry includes two-pack gloss cabinetry and freezer units, allowing more space for food storage.
Centrally located, the kitchen opens out to the verandah. The floor-to-ceiling glass doors allow for temperature control and offer external views. “This is my favourite area because of the way it interacts with the alfresco space,” Steve notes. The undercover entertaining section offers another option for meals (and with gorgeous South Australian weather, outdoor eating is always a popular choice). The pool, of course, is always an admired area, offering the option of relaxation and fun, and is bordered by strategically placed trees that inject greenery into the outdoor space.
The majestic home exudes sophistication inside and out. The master bedroom is a particularly lavish space — quite the sanctuary for an owner. A bay window provides a focal point in the room and centralises the bed. The flooring is roasted blackbutt timber boards and the windows are large and let in an abundance of natural light. The connecting ensuite is housed with an Oh! 1800mm free-standing bath, an Essastone New Sable Luxe and walnut veneer vanity unit, and a shower and water closet located behind frameless glass enclosures. It really is a space to escape to for relaxation and recuperation.
The team at Medallion Homes has created a classic and contemporary piece, one that showcases spatial generosity, comfort, efficiency and smart living (the home has
a six-star energy rating). A sense of tranquillity is created through the balanced proportions, elegant colour scheme and clever design characteristics. It’s truly a house that one would feel comfortable calling home.
