modern homes

As a result of extensive renovations to an older, traditional-style home, the kitchen area was relocated to a new open-plan space where Jag Kitchens customdesigned and built a showstopper kitchen with a futuristic edge. Designed by Jag Kitchens’ Marija Novosel, the concept of the kitchen came together pretty quickly once the shaping of the island bench was conceived.

Broken bench heights on this island accentuated the vision as well as becoming a practical place for children to eat. “The horizontal elements (of the kitchen) stemmed from the broken heights and are accentuated by the varying benchtop thicknesses,” says Marija. “I felt the geometry needed to be broken by clean vertical elements, hence the rounded corner of the island echoed by the striking cylindrical custom-made extraction flutes.” While included purely for aesthetic purposes, the rounded corner — topped with an element of blackwood timber to complement the flooring and French doors — becomes the hub of the space. It is a practical meeting place for pre-dinner drinks and nibbles when the owners are entertaining and the use of timber adds warmth to the design. The tall ceiling height allowed the designer to extend the units to a grand height of 2700mm, providing the client with extra storage space on one wall and an impressive metallic glass splashback on another.

Leading off from the kitchen and joining it to the rest of the room is a buffet in matching colours and a lowered bench height. More than simply kitchen makers, the people at Jag Kitchens were also in charge of other aspects of the renovated home, with each additional design as stunning and standout as the next. Adjacent to the kitchen area is a stylish entertainment unit finished in two-pack polyurethane Solver Talc combined with Calcutta marble benchtops and splashbacks. Cabinets tower to the roof for additional storage space while the mounted television hung below the suspended shelf lit with LED lighting provides a feature contrast to the fireplace on the adjoining wall. In the next room, a matching bar is the highlight of the games room and is situated next to the pool table. Moving into the ensuite bathroom, where the vanity was designed by Outside Square, the room was given a fresh approach. The vanity doors were finished in metallic guilded bronze, which sets off the Calcutta marble of the benchtop and splashback.

The outdoor kitchen adds a spectacular element to the alfresco area. Jag Kitchens gets many requests for outdoor kitchens and barbecues and the company’s expertise is evident. The champagne-coloured cupboard doors are finished in a durable aluminium to cater for adverse conditions. The carefully selected Beefeater barbecue has a sink to one side and preparation bench space on the other, still allowing plenty of room for outdoor entertaining. While Jag Kitchens has created a real stand-out kitchen that surpasses the client’s expectations, the company is not limited to that one room alone. Jag design solutions extend to outdoor kitchens, bars, home theatres, offices, luxurious walk-in robes and dressing rooms. There are many more examples of Jag’s joinery expertise so trust the proof and allow Jag to add your project to its growing list of stunning home makeovers.
