With access to an indoor plunge pool, this kitchen is ideally situated as the entertaining centre of the home

As part of a much larger renovation, the design of the new kitchen had to work within the open-plan space as well as take into consideration access to the adjacent indoor plunge pool. Working together from concept stage, Jenny and her homeowner friend were able to come up with a design for the entire rear of the house, which incorporated all the aspects that he wished.
The kitchen’s simple design belies the conceptual work that went into creating this space. Jenny had to ensure that the design featured adequate thoroughfares and that access to the kitchen was not restricted by the incorporation of the plunge pool. It was also important that the owners be able to entertain in style with plenty of room for family and friends to gather in the kitchen on a warm summer’s night.
Jenny has incorporated her signature large island to give the owners plenty of preparation and serving space while the rear of the kitchen is concentrated on providing storage and work areas. The refrigerator, oven and cooktop are located at the rear of the kitchen with the sink and dishwasher in the island, creating a highly functional work triangle.
To capture the essence of the plunge pool, the rear cupboards reflect the cool blue of the water while the island provides contrast in sleek bright white. A bank of stools makes it easy for visitors to keep the cook company or for children to complete their homework while the owners prepare an evening meal. An abundance of glass makes this kitchen such a light, bright and inviting space while its proximity to the plunge pool ensures it is the owner’s favourite part of the newly-renovated home.
