Kitchen Design

Who said being practical had to be boring? Function and form coexist in this exciting space.

As keen cooks, the owners of this kitchen wanted a practical work area where they could whip up a whole menu of gastronomic treats at a moment’s notice. With their previous kitchen literally “all over the place”, the owners enlisted The Kitchen Place to refine the layout and transform all the bits and pieces into one cohesive design. Peter Tredinnick headed up the design team and was instrumental in planning out this coherent design, which facilitates both entertaining and cooking. Opting for a galley-style layout, a sizeable island bench was installed for additional bench space. With no sink or cooktop, the gorgeous Almond Rocca CaesarStone benchtop is completely dedicated to food preparation and servery.

To keep the kitchen clutter-free, provision has been made for an abundance of practical and sensible storage. A large pantry holds all the owners’ non-perishables and has plenty of room for their healthy collection of oils, flours and spices. A host of deep drawers and cabinets, equipped with all the finest hardware, provides a home for every last kitchen necessity. Clearly defined internals mean everything has a place — there’s even a spot for the trays and chopping boards in the kicker drawers. The kitchen not only functions superbly, but it looks great too. To capture a modern yet homely aesthetic, Peter has utilised an eclectic mix of materials and finishes. Tasmanian oak veneer has been teamed with crisp white paint for a subtle two-toned effect. The Kitchen Place has successfully produced an enjoyable space where the owners and their family can spend time and sample their latest culinary creations — and where form is certainly not compromised by function.
