Modern Homes Martyn Lawrence-Bullard is an illustrious and multiple-award-winning interior designer, known for his glamorous and worldly interiors for high-profile and celebrity clientele, ranging from rock stars to royalty

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard’s visionary outlook on making homes luxurious sanctuaries has made him an arbiter of taste, appealing to his larger-than-life clientele including Cher, Sir Elton John and David Furnish, Christina Aguilera, Eva Mendes, Ellen Pompeo, Kid Rock, Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, and Tamara Mellon, founder and president of Jimmy Choo.

In addition, Martyn has worked extensively on commercial projects including Colony Palms Hotel Group, executive suites for both Paramount and Warner Bros Studios, the Beverly Hills luxury emporium Shizue, and restaurant projects including the Purple Palm and Five Feet.

It’s no wonder, then, that when legend, icon, and world-famous rock star Sir Elton John and partner David Furnish sought a space where they could reclaim the feeling of 1970s Los Angeles, they enlisted the help of good friend and LA resident Lawrence-Bullard to create a veritable Hollywood haven. For years now Elton has been one of the most recognisable and high-profile celebrities in the world.

Therefore, it was a necessity that his home be a place where he could relax and socialise in complete privacy. Instead of settling for a “traditional” Hollywood Hills abode, he and David chose a soaring spectacular hill-top apartment. David is the driving force behind the couple’s property portfolio, which includes six homes in four countries.

Led by Lawrence-Bullard’s keen understanding of the couple’s aesthetic and lifestyle, the inspiration for the space sprung from their aweinspiring collection of contemporary art and an energetic colour palette. The space features exquisite Mies van der Rohe furniture, plush cream Chinese goat rugs, and lime-green chaise lounges which work in elegant concordance, creating an ode to the clean glamour of Halston and the energy of Boogie Nights.

Lawrence-Bullard focused on a rich mixture of greens, browns and reds, which he then highlighted with bona fide rock star details such as the white-gold tiled bathrooms, a crystal chandelier from Milan’s Grand Hotel foyer, and custom Murano glass door knobs. In the master bedroom, Lawrence-Bullard’s concept for platinum leaf ceilings added glitz to the sensuous and sexy B&B Italia bed which he chose to cover in python. However, all of the magnificent furnishings only stand to enhance the couple’s jawdropping art collection, which features artists such as Jasper Johns, Wang Guangyi, sculpture by Marc Quinn, neon art by Tracey Emin, and striking snake images by Italian artist and photographer Guido Mocafico.

Lawrence- Bullard utilised the collection in a way that manifested itself into a bold, provocative, and inviting ambience. As you make your way through this stunning space, it becomes evident that only a designer such as Martyn Lawrence-Bullard could have exceeded the extraordinary expectations of a legend such as Sir Elton John.
