Dulux strikes the perfect Balance

Dulux has just unveiled their colour trends for 2018—Balance, a compilation of palettes which reflect the world we live in and our deepest desires.

We live in a world saturated with technological advancement, political uncertainty and environmental change, so it’s no surprise that so many of us crave a sense of balance.

Enter Dulux. This year, their 2018 Dulux Colour Trends ‘Balance’ is a collection of globally inspired hues, cocooning combinations, breezy neutrals and folklore-inspired shades that celebrate the traditions of the past and the innovations of the future. Categorised into four carefully curated themes, Balance aims to both nurture and inspire.

“Inspired by our global trends research, it’s clear that 2018 will see an emphasis on balance, connection and community,” says Dulux Colour Expert, Andrea Lucena-Orr. “As we let go of the idea of perfection in both our homes and other aspects in our lives, we are instead seeking to create balanced, harmonious interiors that stimulate the senses, while simultaneously allowing us to relax and retreat.

“Our homes should tell our stories, connecting us to both the past and the future. Colour is a wonderful way to express our personal tastes and passions.”

“Natural, earthy colours and textures will be coming to the fore and there will be even more of an appreciation for the splendour of imperfection,” says Andrea.

“At the same time, we’ll also see an inspiring travel palette emerging, filled with palm prints, happiness and visual delights. Immersing yourself in this uplifting world of colour can be transformative, lifting the soul and making you feel more spontaneous and creative.”

Social and political unrest are becoming more and more prevalent, and we are increasingly looking to one another for the truth, and reviving folklore and old traditions for comfort. Kinship is a celebration of cultural heritage, and is inspired by folklore details, such as tassels, patterns, fringing, stitching, embroidery and carving. The colour palette is a fusion of rich, earthy hues and cosy natural shades.

Smart technology and innovation have changed the way we live and raised our standards. However, we still feel a connection to the past, and often re-imagine furniture classics from yesteryear to suit our contemporary lifestyle. Reflect celebrates this connection between old and new, and the palette exudes a hint of nostalgia for 1970s glamour, 90s swagger and the elegance from the 30s and 50s. It features rich colours to create moody schemes, focusing on greens and warm shades from pink to greyed-off purple hues, with avocado featuring as a highlight accent.
