Staron was selected for its exceptional durability, seamless finish, and design flexibility, critical for executing a 4.2m benchtop that anchors the kitchen both visually and functionally. The stunning custom dining table, measuring an impressive 3600 x 1500mm, was made to match the kitchen, creating a cohesive and striking interior. Crafted with Staron Solid Surface, Blackbutt timber, and custom metal legs.

Its near-invisible joins created a continuous, high-impact surface. While the terrazzo-look finish introduced subtle colour variation within a single surface, adding depth and visual interest, while complementing the nature-inspired palette and gold accents.

This project reinforced the versatility and precision Staron offers in large-scale, bespoke applications. Working with a 4.2m seamless benchtop highlighted the material’s ability to achieve almost invisible joins, demonstrating how seamless surfaces can be created even at an impressive scale.

The home of designers Matthew and Brittany Purves, founders of Spectura Studio, creatively, and playfully, combines offset geometry and oblique angles, not to mention vibrant colours, to create something utterly unique.

When designing their new home, the couple didn’t want to be confined in their use of colour and form, so they looked to materials such as Staron Solid Surfaces to gift them with the creative freedom they craved. In the bathrooms, this enabled the duo to allow their imaginations to soar.

Of distinctive design, the main bathroom showcases the seamless beauty of Staron in California Poppy, a brilliant orange. The perfect expression of the couple’s fresh, highly individualistic design aesthetic, California Poppy brings a dynamic touch to the vanity and mirror.

The rakish angles of the mirror are accentuated by the bright-orange Staron frame, as is the unique geometry of the floating vanity that is wrapped in the same vividly coloured material. The vanity is complemented by a custom basin fashioned out of epoxy resin and made in-house, combined with tapware in a warm metallic finish. At night, LED lighting enriches the citrus tones of the Staron and enhances the shimmer of the wall tiles and coloured grout.

The ensuite embraces a different but no less arresting colour palette. Here, the geometry of the mirror and vanity is highlighted with Staron in Sanded Mint, the same colour used for the kitchen benchtops and splashback.

This home, winner of the Staron Design Awards Residential Category in 2024, isn’t just the embodiment of the owners’ unique personalities, it is a certified Passivhaus built using low-environmental-impact principles. This means it is a home that proves sustainability and creativity do go hand-in-hand.

This modern kitchen is an artful fusion of country-style elements and beautiful functionality. Before the renovation, the galley kitchen restricted movement. It also had a sense of disconnect to the rest of the open-plan living spaces. It was dark, due to a single window and heavy timber cabinetry from floor to ceiling, and there were storage issues that needed to be addressed.

During the renovation, the existing skylight was replaced with a clear glass version, and two large windows fitted to invite in more light. The cabinet doors and panels in two-pack finish add a touch of elegance. A custom island bench replaced the L-shaped benchtop, offering plenty of much-needed storage.

As part of the renovation, a wall was removed to add space and a sense of connectedness, as well as to increase the volume of natural light that filtered into the space. The final result is a beautiful custom kitchen that will serve the family for many years to come.

Let’s talk function first. The kitchen boasts Bosch and Samsung appliances, ABI tapware and Blum hinges and drawers – all perfect for a frequently used kitchen. The room’s working zones are flawless, with plenty of space to wash and prep ingredients, and set up small appliances when necessary. The island benchtop adds extra prep room, with the added benefit of seating on one side – just in case the homeowners want to eat casual meals or entertain dinner guests right where all the action is. The cabinetry facilitates plenty of storage while remaining stylish and on-theme.

Now to form. The kitchen’s aesthetic is a unique marriage of colour and geometry, thanks to cleverly selected materials and some creative thinking. The application of Staron in Sanded Mint on the benchtops brings the design to the next level, complementing the bold colour palette beautifully while contrasting the room’s warm timber surrounds. Due to its seamless nature, as well as durability and ease of maintenance, Staron was an ideal choice.

It’s easy to see why this bright, quirky kitchen design, together with the rest of the home, won the Residential Category in the Staron Design Awards. The space is ultimately playful, creative and unique – all without compromising on functionality and longevity.

One of the primary changes was aligning the farmhouse-style sink with the centre of the window, creating a balanced and aesthetically pleasing focal point. The redesign also improved accessibility to the corner cabinets, ensuring that every part of the kitchen is both beautiful and functional.

The kitchen is designed around large ovens, a farmhouse sink, and glass-door bar fridges, catering to both everyday cooking and entertaining needs. The rangehood canopy and overhead cabinets were extended to the ceiling, working with the bulkhead. To further enhance the classic charm, Federation-style cornices and decorative corbels around the rangehood add a distinctive character to the space.

A key element selected in this transformation is the use of Staron® Solid Surfaces in Collina Urbanity. Known for its seamless and non-porous properties, Staron was integrated into the benchtops, with routed drainers near the sink for both practicality and a clean aesthetic. Unlike traditional stone, Staron offers a smooth, warm to the touch surface that is hygienic easy to maintain and more comfortable to use in daily kitchen tasks.

The herringbone tiles introduce a soft textured feature, while the mint green walls create a fresh and inviting backdrop, harmonising beautifully with the limed white satin-finish shaker doors. One of our favourite benchtop solutions would have to be Staron.
