For a new home in East Doncaster, Victoria, plans of a modern kitchen were high on the list of priorities. The client brief presented to Con Moshopoulos of Urban Kitchens outlined a kitchen that balances form and function with the owners’ own sophisticated style. When designing a kitchen, use of space is one of the most important factors to consider. For this home, the kitchen was part of the open-plan living space. Deep storage drawers underneath keep the work surface clutterfree and it’s this clever use of space that also enhances the size of the room. The ergonomic kitchen projects the entire home into a contemporary era, while still integrating the rest of the residence. A seamless integration is what this kitchen in an open-plan living space is all about. This room also doubles as the focal point of the living area and had to be aesthetically pleasing.
The choice of colour was also important to the clients, who felt earthy tones represented a sophisticated, modern look. Clean lines dominate this space, further highlighting the contemporary feel. The kitchen is positioned on the bottom of a mezzanine level of the house, overlooking the stunning views of the property. To support the clean lines and modern finishes, Duropal solid laminate in Sand Grey Gloss was chosen for the cabinets. Grey ironbark gloss finish floorboards add to the very classic and relaxed feel of the room. Not only was the kitchen part of the brief, Urban Kitchens also designed the butler’s pantry, the home’s four bathrooms, the laundry and bar joinery.
