On the north coast of New South Wales, this 50-year-old brick veneer home has been cleverly redesigned to create a sophisticated space with a laid-back vibe for its family of four — where the stunning location is encapsulated and celebrated through every window.
With the living, kitchen and dining areas completely reconfigured, along with the addition of a bedroom, each element was considerate of spectacular views surrounding the property. Sleek lines in the new kitchen point towards the stunning outdoors, while brilliant surfaces such as Quantum Quartz and polished hardwood floors reflect the abundant natural light.
Inspired by a sweeping panorama of Lamington National Park at the rear, the project included the addition of a large elevated outdoor deck off the kitchen, complete with a custom-designed barbecue station. Usable in both wet and dry weather, it provides ample space for entertaining, while under-rail deck lighting elevates the elegance. The deck structure is perfectly positioned to create a sheltered outdoor area below, meeting the pool in a sense of unity and tranquillity, while overlooking a play area for children in the landscaped garden.
As the property is situated in an elevated position in a coastal landscape, prevailing weather was an important design factor, which determined the addition of outdoor roller blinds designed to withstand the elements, while lighter colours were used in priority areas to minimise heat absorption.
Natural light projects seamlessly throughout the internal and external spaces, giving it a sense of warmth and cohesion. The finish and sense of style is spectacular — both sophisticated yet accessible and family friendly — and is a perfect marriage with the stunning landscape beyond the home.
