This brand-new all-electric home is what off-grid fantasies are made of, and it’s situated in open farmland close to Hepburn Springs and Daylesford on the traditional lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

Miglas passive solar home

Simple roof made of scions. A combination wood burner and boiler that also powers in-slab hydronic floor heating provides warmth in the winter because the highly insulated envelope achieves a comfortable 7.2 star energy rating, which means no air conditioning is needed in the summer. All electricity is produced on-site by a 5 kW solar PV system for this all-electric home.

With no gas & all rainwater collected in 3 x 22,000L tanks, this is a fully independent off-grid, all-electric home.

Off-Grid Passive Solar Home

With some help from craftsmen like the stone mason who painstakingly built the dry-stone base walls from rocks gathered on-site, the owners constructed a large portion of their dream house.

Off Grid Bathroom

Ironbark cladding and rusted “corten” steel complement the surrounding environment and will weather beautifully over time. Inside, the walls are painted lining boards with no plasterboard, and the ceiling is lined with natural wood.

But best of all is the board views across the unmistakably Australian landscape which can be seen from each & every room of this stunning home.
