A design might look good on plan, but does it work with the challenges and constraints of the space? The team at Senator Pools took up the challenge
This rear yard was built with three varying levels, and access to the pool and spa had to be achieved from all three. Compound this with utility services and retaining walls within and about the pool — Senator Pools had its design brief established.
The homeowners lead a very active lifestyle and so any opportunity to sit back and relax in their spa and pool is welcomed. They also love entertaining, so the poolscape had to be both appealing and functional. Senator Pools invited the clients to take an active role in the design of the pool and spa and in the selection of materials and finishes, to ensure their vision of their outdoor living space was realised.
The design sought to maximise the space available, while maintaining a sense of the proportion and balance with all of the elements to create the outdoor living area.
The spa is the focal point of the poolscape. It is elevated to create a seamless connection with the alfresco area. Finished in a black mosaic tile, the spa comfortably seats eight people, with a weir on two sides that cascades into the pool.
A large-format ceramic tile, also in black, scribes the waterline to the pool and the façade to the spa. The interior of the pool is finished with a specially blended black-glass bead render, adding to its mystic appeal.
A rebated cement-rendered feature wall frames the opposite side of the pool. This feature wall, cast integrally with the pool structure, is finished in a vibrant fuchsia, which was chosen by the homeowners for a dramatic contrast and also serves to conceal the filtration equipment. Two grottos (or recesses) were cast in the feature wall, either side of the sheer-descent waterfall.
LED lighting inserted in the grottos illuminates the figurines displayed. The subtle lighting of the spa, pool, water feature and recessed grottos creates a peaceful ambience and is simply captivating.
The concourse area around the pool is finished with a Travertine tile and the end result is outstanding.
