This fully-tiled pool and spa design is just right for an active family.
Imagine sitting in the custom-designed pergola, chatting with friends or watching the kids as they play in the family-size swimming pool. Or you might like to picture yourself enjoying the soothing jets of the spa, located just a few steps away.
Credit for the design of the fully-tiled contemporary pool and the eye-catching timber pergola, not to mention the outdoor kitchen, the lighting system and more, lies with Shawn Townsend of Melbourne-based Ashtown Landscapes.
The owners wanted a pool, entertaining space with kitchen and a kids’ area in the rear garden. In the front, they wanted a garden that would complement the home and have masses of street appeal. What Shawn and the Ashtown Landscapes’ construction team have given the owners is a series of outdoor rooms with clean, simple lines and an emphasis on low maintenance. To the rear of the home, the pergola is a feature of the design. Constructed of cypress pine supplied by Flatmans Timber & Hardware, it provides shade and privacy to an informal lounge area positioned behind the elevated spa.
The decking and seating, which includes hidden storage space, is merbau timber, also supplied by Flatmans Timber & Hardware. The timber structures work in perfect harmony with stone paving, comprised of Tasman Grey flamed granite and Arctic White flamed granite, all from Granite Works.
Designed with a family in mind, the pool caters for everyone’s needs. There is a lap lane for exercising, a shallow area and wide steps for children or adults who just want to laze about, and a spa. Access was tight and there was limited space to include a pool, so to make the area feel as spacious as possible, Ashtown Landscapes designed and installed a frameless glass pool fence.
The planting scheme for both rear and front gardens includes ficus, gardenias, muraya, Chanticleer ornamental pears and Japanese maples, all of which are watered via a fully automated drip-irrigation system. The lighting scheme, which highlights the feature planting at night, is a combination of Hunza and Megabay fittings, giving all outdoor spaces a welcoming night-time glow.
