A world-first water treatment system developed by Waterco Ltd. has received the pool industry’s highest accolade with the Master Pool Builders Association Australia (MPBAA) awarding Oxiswim 2022 Product of the Year.
Hailed a breakthrough in water treatment technology, Oxiswim combines electrolysis with hydrogen peroxide to form a bacterial killing weapon — the first of its kind that effectively prevents biofilms from developing without chlorine.
“Biofilm formation is not generally recognised as an important factor when operating a residential or commercial swimming pool,” says Nick Briscoe, inventor of Oxiswim. “However, this is a key contributing factor to increased sanitiser demands and poor water quality.”
What makes Oxiswim special is that it takes sequential disinfection to the next level with multiple layers of pathogen deactivation to maintain healthy, hygienic pool water.
“It not only provides the ultimate protection for people as they swim but also produces a long-lasting residual effect,” he explains. “Knowing it met all MPBAA’s criteria, from compliance and safety to conservation, is very rewarding.”
Championing sustainability and social responsibility
MPBAA CEO Chris Samartzis says a viable alternative to chlorine as an effective water sanitiser has alluded the industry for decades — until now.
“This is what makes Oxiswim a gamechanger,” says. “Consumers now have a choice thanks to Waterco, which is championing sustainability and social responsibility by investing in products like this.”
Samartzis says winning Australian Product of the Year shows Waterco to be a beacon of innovation.
“This nationally acclaimed award puts Waterco on a pedestal for chasing healthy water and energy efficiencies that make a difference in the community,” he says.
