Climate care certified: your sustainable stamp of approval

Enhance your time in the pool while saving water and energy with Waterco.

When Australia’s first Climate Care Certified swimming pool featuring Waterco’s energy-saving Hydrostorm ECO pump and water-saving MultiCyclone technology was revealed in 2020, it signified a new era for homeowners — especially those living in regions where water restrictions are commonplace and energy bills continue to soar.

Since then, Waterco has developed a suite of products and systems sporting the “CCC” logo, ranging from the latest energy-efficient variable-speed pool pumps, centrifugal and water-saving cartridge and media filters, to technologically advanced chlorinators. While highly efficient on their own, these savvy solutions enable consumers to reach the highest levels of environmental sustainability when combined and operated in the correct way.

“Consumers have become more aware of their impact on water and power consumption and are increasingly taking steps to reduce their environmental footprint,” explains Waterco COO Bryan Goh. “Our overall goal is to design and manufacture products that help people live more sustainably while getting the most enjoyment out of their swimming pool and spa.”

Bryan says third-party certification like Climate Care Certified — the industry’s official stamp of approval when it comes to sustainable pool and spa ownership — authenticates a product’s green credentials while providing confidence to eco-conscious consumers.

“Meeting the stringent requirements of this program separates products that genuinely save you water and energy from those that don’t,” he says. “This prevents consumers from being ‘greenwashed’ and falling prey to false or misleading statements about the environmental benefits of a product or practice.”

Improving your pool’s energy efficiency and water usage

Waterco is proud to have one of the most comprehensive ranges of Climate Care Certified products on the market. By installing these innovations, you reduce your carbon footprint and enjoy significant cost savings.

Waterco’s dual filtration system, which features its MultiCyclone Centrifugal and Opal Cartridge filters, is engineered to reduce water consumption and maintenance. The proprietary technology uses advanced centrifugal water filtration, meaning there are no moving parts and no filter media to clean or replace. Furthermore, installing a MultiCyclone as a pre-filter to a cartridge filter can reduce cartridge maintenance to approximately once per swimming season, resulting in significant savings of water.

Equipped with the latest three-speed permanent magnet brushless DC motor, the five-star energy-rated Hydrostorm ECO-V Variable Speed Pump can be operated on its low (ECO) speed setting for a majority of its running time, leading to 80 per cent energy savings. This allows pool owners to take advantage of off-peak electrical tariff periods without disrupting neighbours.

The Electrochlor Plus Mineral Chlorinator makes your pool smarter by automatically taking care of sanitisation, pH management, filtration and auxiliary equipment so you don’t have to. This one device monitors and displays everything you need to know about your pool in real time. It also automatically controls the pool’s pH balance through feedback from inline sensors. Maintaining correct pH levels (7.4-7.6 pH) is essential for many reasons: it ensures you get the most out of your sanitising chemicals, it protects pool surfaces and equipment from corrosion or scaling, and it creates a more pleasant swimming experience.

Waterco harnessed its experience manufacturing commercial pool filters to design a new lateral system for its residential Micron ECO filters. The effective coverage of the lateral system virtually eliminates dead areas of flow, providing an even up-flow through the filter bed during backwashing. This significantly reduces backwash time, leading to savings of up to 30 per cent backwash water.

Glass Pearls — the new generation of superior pool water filter media — offer water efficiency and much finer filtration than sand to provide outstanding water purity and clarity. Glass Pearls require up to 20 per cent less backwash water than sand, reducing maintenance time and water use.

Sweep Elbows are the perfect solution to improving a pool’s hydraulic efficiency, particularly when using energy-efficient pumps like Waterco’s Hydrostorm ECO-V model. Improving hydraulic efficiency enables them to operate at a lower speed without sacrificing flow rate through the pool’s filtration circuit or reducing the pool’s turnover rate.

“By installing these Climate Care Certified products and systems, pool and spa owners can significantly reduce their environmental impact while still enjoying the benefits of your backyard oasis,” says Bryan.
