A former Olympic swimmer, this homeowner knew exactly what he wanted for his family’s pool
What do you do when you are contacted by a high-profile former Olympic swimmer to build his pool? You build one that wins awards and exceeds the client’s expectations.
This was the task faced by Capital Fibreglass Pools when approached by their client, who has spent most of his life training in swimming pools and knew exactly what he wanted. Now retired from competitive swimming, it was important to him to have a pool not only for exercising and teaching his young children to swim, but also as a water feature to enhance the family’s alfresco area.
The project involved the seamless integration of the existing outdoor areas and the new plunge pool located in the courtyard. Existing boundary fences, which incorporated brick pier and Colorbond infill, were all required to be extended approximately 400mm to comply with regulations and keep all levels consistent with the alfresco space.
Part of the client’s brief was to design a water feature using a supplied stainless-steel fountain head with LED lighting. By extending the water feature wall past the actual swimming pool, a spot was created where the parents can sit and relax while their children swim in the pool. This area has been dubbed “the ice cream seat”.
As the space was limited, a Cleardeck below-ground cover and roller system was installed to continue the seamless theme.
The set height of this pool was chosen so that the clients could commission additional paving work under the alfresco in the future. Capital Fibreglass Pools supplied, laid and cut all of the travertine around this pool, including matching the front tiles of the water feature to the drop-edge tiles in the pool, creating one uniform line across the waterline.
