When the blistering heat of a long Sydney summer becomes too much to bear, this young family in Smithfield doesn’t have to venture far to beat the heat. With small children to cater for and an extended family to entertain, the homeowners requested a secluded water haven in their backyard to bring the family together and keep cool in Sydney’s western suburbs.
Designed and built by Blue Haven Pools, the 12m-long pool won the highly coveted Gold award at the 2021 SPASA NSW Awards for Concrete Pool up to $60,000. This win is no surprise, thanks to an impressive array of features such as a rounded spa, jet ledge and ledge lounger — also known as the Blue Haven Champagne Ledge. “The ledge loungers are an iconic Blue Haven feature — one-of-a-kind sunken furniture that completes the look,” explains Blue Haven Pools.
An abundance of multi-coloured lights dazzle with the water movement from the jets and stunning stackstone feature wall. The depth of blue water is spectacular and the fully tiled raised round spa really pops. In addition, the spa’s inbuilt side ice bucket ensures that champagne is never too far away.

Most people know Blue Haven Pools from the old television commercials when an elephant walked into a Blue Haven pool to show just how strong the pool was built. Ray Awadallah started Blue Haven Pools in 1973 and almost 50 years later, the company is still owned and operated by the same family, and is now run by Ray’s daughter, Remonda Rose, who has worked in the family business since she left school.
