Lush landscaping coupled with outstanding pool design makes for a gorgeous backyard space

From small inner-city courtyards to large country estates, whether it’s contemporary or traditional design, multi-award-winning A Total Concept Landscape Architects, Cabana & Pool Designers can help with any outdoor design project anywhere in Australia.

This project was designed in a simple formal style that complements the contemporary residence. The main external space for the property is in the front of the residence and this required a careful design resolution to integrate the swimming pool and outdoor entertaining areas (that are traditionally located at the rear of the home) with the main pedestrian entry and the lawn.

The entrance path is located to one side of the property, allowing maximum space for the swimming pool and lawn area. The swimming pool has been designed with a deep middle and two shallow ends, with broad entry steps that allow the entire pool to be safely used for games by the young children.

The swimming pool has a flowing yet formal feel. It features a beautiful light-blue Quartzon interior with travertine waterline tiles that cause the water to shimmer and sparkle during the day. The pool continues to glow into the night, with numerous pool and garden lights adding life and interest.

The elevated poolside entertaining terrace provides views over the swimming pool towards the residence and all features are linked together with the consistent use of blond travertine paving, painted rendered surfaces, traditional sandstone walls and a consistent planting style. The elevated paved entertaining terrace incorporates stunning timber daybeds so that adults can lounge and relax while supervising children in the swimming pool, and once finished swimming the children can entertain themselves on the broad poolside steps.

Privacy has been provided around the swimming pool, lawn and elevated entertaining areas by tall hedges within landscaped gardens, which brim with an intentionally simple palette of glossy foliated plants. To ensure the plants’ viability, A Total Concept incorporated composting, heavy mulching and a water-wise fully automatic drip irrigation system linked to large water storage tanks.

Plant species include formal hedges of Cupressus ‘Leightons Green’ (green pine hedge) and Viburnum ‘Emerald Lustre’ (glossy tinus), specimen plantings of stunning Magnolia soulangeana ‘Blue’ (blue magnolia), low blue and white coloured borders of Agapanthus ‘Blue Peter’ (blue agapanthus), Buxus ‘Japonica’ (Japanese box), Spathiphyllum ‘Sensation’ (white peace lily) and Gardenia augusta ‘Florida’ (white florist’s gardenia) and groundcovers of Hedera canariensis (Canary Island ivy) and the heavenly scented climber Trachelospermum jasminiodes (white star jasmine).

The simplicity of design visually unifies the overall project and adds immeasurable value to the property, showcasing the design skills of A Total Concept Landscape Architects & Swimming Pool Designers.
