This outstanding contemporary custom design was provided by the clients, with Norfolk Pools asked to advise on features that could be added to lift the ambience and finish in a subtle and stylish way while achieving something a little different. A main feature of the house, the pool sits in a large courtyard space and incorporates both geometric and freeform lines for a contemporary impression.

The 13m-long pool, designed by MHDP Architects, distinguishes itself from all others with its impressive amphitheatre that meets a 4m-long acrylic window, complete with bubblers and fountain. This flow is embraced by the rounded end of the pool and custom spa.

A 2.4m water curtain sits above the pool, falling from the first floor of the house, while Laminar LED jets are positioned subtly around the pool and spa. There is also a shallow wader for sun lounges inside the pool. The design is flawlessly finished with a fog machine under the stainless-steel-framed bridge, and titanium mosaics.

This project perfectly aligns with Norfolk Pools’ principles of good design. “An impressive design should have at least one element that is striking and spectacular,” explains Danica Vansleve of Norfolk Pools. “Something that is immediate to draw your eye. From there, subtle layers can be added through changes of height, texture, materials, movement of water and lighting. A pool is a visual element of your home; good design is understanding that 90 per cent of your time is spent looking at your pool and therefore making it part of your lifestyle.”
