We take a look inside a bespoke cedar barrel sauna designed and built by Ukko Saunas
This cedar barrel sauna was custom-made by Ukko Saunas for a client in Brisbane. It features a 600mm overhang, front seat, and a big window at the back for relaxing views:
From the inside looking out, the window provides a brilliant source of natural light as well as the opportunity to view nature while you relax amidst the steam. Because of its barrel-shaped construction, this sauna is also more energy efficient than conventional square or rectangular designs. Its cedar construction also makes it easy to maintain and keep looking good with regular coats of oil.
This sauna will be supplied with an electric heater and bitumen shingles to protect it from the rain, giving the owner the complete package.
Why Cedar?
Cedar is an especially popular choice of wood for sauna construction. This is because, traditionally, it has been the most conventionally used type of wood in the past and is also renowned for its insulating properties, both in terms of temperature and sound. Cedar also doesn’t expand as much as it heats, an essential for any well-constructed sauna. All Ukko barrel saunas are made out of premium grade Western Red Cedar Timbers delivered from Canadian sustainable forests.
