In designing a family beach home that connects with the magnificent location, Northern Beaches builder Peninsula Homes has created a stunning design that will suit the owners’ needs for years to come
Local builders Peninsula Homes first met the homeowner, John, in 2013, and carefully studied a number of home designs before he and Jane settled on this stunning Dee Why home. The design fits perfectly with the location, making the absolute most of the views, prevailing breezes and natural sunlight in all seasons.
While modest in size, the space works perfectly in day-to-day use and also while entertaining. This is achieved through the homes’ ingenious use of indoor-outdoor space that flows from the gorgeous front deck through to the sheltered rear entertaining area. Variations in ceiling height help separate the kitchen work space from the rest of the area.
Recycled timbers, finished with natural bees wax to provide just the right feel, set the tone of the living area, with a custom barn door and window seat standing out as striking additions to the space that provide character.
The build did not occur without its challenges. The disused public walkway to the western side meant that a large side setback of 2m was required. Although a challenge to the design process, this saw the home being 10m wide and 12.6 m long at its largest point. Located on the ridge between Dee Why and Curl Curl, the high nature of the build maximises the views in both directions; with an angled front balcony that naturally directs attention to the ocean views and takes advantage of the articulation zone under the NSW Housing Code Complying Development rules.
Overall the homeowners were thrilled with this incredible Dee Why home and as a result it is to be featured on the TV Series Open Homes Australia.
