Rural Retreat: A Low-Maintenance Residence with Striking Design and Natural Tones

Gallery

With zoned wings serviced by a central kitchen, living and dining area, this low-maintenance rural residence features a striking colour scheme incorporating high contrast black and white, complemented by natural timber tones.

Designed for a couple moving into a rural setting, the client brief was for a home that nestled into the surroundings, reflected earthy tones, was low maintenance, and provided zoning for family and guests. The brief also included specific feature colours to create high-impact areas of the home.

Externally the house utilises a mixture of claddings. These include an Axon panel with its wood grain finish, which provides an earthy link to the setting, and metal corrugation cladding, giving a rural aspect to the styling. The primary feature of the external of the building is the recycled ironbark posts with beams linking back to the home in the outdoor area. The ironbark posts and beams provide a focal point appreciated from both internal and external aspects. The combination of the pitched and skillion roof styles adds a contrast but also provides a visual link to the surrounding hills from the driveway entrance.

Internally, the stunning polished concrete floor with in-slab heating provides a warm welcome to occupants via the feature entryway. The flooring continues throughout the dining and living areas, where large windows, skylights and sliding glass doors bathe the space in natural light and capture magnificent views.

A dramatic colour scheme of high contrast black and white, is used to great effect, and a square set cornice to the living zone enhances the clean lines of the building. Visual balance is achieved with the addition of natural timber tones. Aspects such as the study nook and custom day bed with Silver Ash finishes add a softness to the internal areas.

An extensive custom cabinetry package creates sharpness throughout the kitchen with a combination of matt black and beech facings creating a contemporary look. The butler’s pantry layout has been optimised for functionality and includes ample cupboards and shelving.

The sizeable master bedroom and ensuite have dual walk-in robe areas and sliding door access to the undercover outdoor space for the enjoyment of the rural setting. Large charcoal floor tiles and glass white wall tiles feature in the ensuite. Additional bedrooms are serviced by a separate toilet and a beautifully styled bathroom with feature free-standing bath.

Showcasing a wide range of high-end fixtures, fittings and materials, combined with a focus on functionality in design, this home represents outstanding quality and lifestyle.
