Contemporary small space solution

A contemporary home that makes the most of a small space through clever design

As is the case with many Sydneysiders, these clients lead very busy lives. They wanted a home that could cater to their busy lifestyle and also provide a relaxed environment for the weekends when they had time to enjoy it.

The site on which the home was built was very small and narrow so it was essential to design and build a home with large open spaces, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows and doors to create an expansive feeling. The unique design, built by Starr Constructions, needed to open up the crisp and contemporary home, which is where the floor-to-ceiling windows proved vital; they make the home seem larger. Pure-white tiles also give a sense of space and the glass staircase is a stylish way to ascend or descend, without impeding the interior view.

On the ground level, a dining area adjacent to the kitchen leads through to a tiled outdoor entertaining space that overlooks the lap pool, the ideal location for much-anticipated weekend entertaining of family and friends.

Bi-fold doors from the dining area to the outside entertaining space provide much needed summer breezes throughout the ground floor.

A palette of coffee and white was used for the kitchen and bathrooms and continues through the home — a colour scheme that doesn’t date. The resulting two-storey residence is a very unique design and fitting an open-plan home on such a restricted piece of land makes it all the more special.

“The floor-to-ceiling glass windows, which overlook a stunning lap pool, are our favourite part of the design. We are lucky to work with such a strong dynamic team,” says the client.
