A contemporary family home filled with stylish accents
What was originally an old fibro house could not be more different to what now stands in its place. Located in Sydney’s Inner West, the new residence was created by Starr Constructions for a family of five and offers space and luxury on tap.
“The original home on the site was very old and ready to come down,” says director of Starr Constructions, Nino Sanzari. “We demolished the home and started with a blank canvas.” Beginning from scratch is not a luxury=QUOTE= many are afforded, but with this fresh outlook comes the ability to create a dream house.

“Our clients wanted a contemporary home with a feeling of warmth,” says Jon Vithoulka, director of Starr Constructions. “It was important the living space was large and connected to the kitchen with views of the pool and outdoor living area. It needed to be open and breezy with plenty of natural light shining through.”
With five bedrooms and five bathrooms, a library, internal lift, mezzanine area, heated pool and gym, outdoor barbecue area and open-plan kitchen/living/dining space, this house strikes the ideal balance between a family home and an entertainer’s delight. An undercover barbecue space in an impressive outdoor area makes entertaining throughout the year convenient and simple for the family. With views of the landscaped garden and pool, indoor–outdoor living is definitely enhanced in this residence.
To boost space, high ceilings and long hallways were an important feature, ensuring all rooms exude a grand presence. “A major design consideration was to have plenty of glass to let in natural light,” says Nino. “Luxurious finishes and clean lines were also important, with shadowline cornices, square-set doors and windows, flush skirting and blade walls,” adds Jon. To up the luxe factor, marble flooring was used downstairs and in the upstairs bathrooms, radiating a rich atmosphere. Contrasting against the marble flooring, spotted gum was utilised upstairs, adding warmth and a point of difference to the bedroom level.
Dubbed “50 Shades of Grey”, this property is very much influenced by classic minimalism with an edge. Filled with designer accents, the space is open and practical but full of style and warmth.
