A seamless and contemporary kitchen design

A contemporary kitchen that allows for effortless functionality and minimal maintenance

“This contemporary kitchen design was part of an overall renovation to this apartment that we carried out in addition to the two bathrooms and custom wardrobes, minor building works and detailed electrical work throughout. The room was a narrow galley style but the kitchen stopped halfway down and left a small dining area at the end.

We changed the layout so that the kitchen ran the length of the room. This gave more storage and benchtop space. The brief was to maximise storage, to create a kitchen where all appliances seem integrated into the floorplan (with nothing jutting out beyond the cabinets), to use materials that are easy to care for and benchtops and splashbacks that are simple to clean.

Strip lighting inside the pantry, inserted vertically, lights every shelf, and half-depth shelves, make everything easy to access without losing space. The appliance cabinet has doors that slide away to allow access to the bench area but then hide the appliances when not in use. Stone benchtops with custom-made integrated sinks and matching splashback look fantastic and the use of drawers throughout the kitchen makes for easy access and optimum storage.

The bulkheads feature downlights over the benchtop to ensure the functional zones are well lit. We stripped away some of the dated features in the kitchen such as pelmets and cornices and added bulkheads and set-square ceilings so the overall design has a more contemporary feel.”
