MAXIMISING SPACE IN STYLE with Dezign Kitchens

A change to the layout of an out-of-date kitchen was needed to make better use of the space.

While the room’s many windows meant the area was well lit, it made it difficult to reconfigure the space without blocking the light. The previous kitchen, designed in a U-shape, only utilised a quarter of the room. The space had been divided by an ill-fitting breakfast bar with seating between the window and the kitchen, which cut the kitchen area in half. Chelsea Shear from Dezign Kitchens worked with the clients to create a fresh new look that would incorporate better storage solutions.

The decision was made to combine the kitchen, dining and living sections together to make for a bigger space. As the clients had a lot of small appliances that they used daily, they wanted extra storage to keep these hidden. A custom door created a hidden passageway to the existing walk-in pantry, while the new bifold door pantries make for functional storage spaces for appliances.

The open-shelf timber-look bookcase and display cabinet add warmth and personality as well as providing further storage. The island bench with  its connecting timber-clad dining table creates a central showpiece that ties the space together. The dining table is not only eye-catching; it has become an activity hub for entertaining, as well as for everyday use.
