Freedom Kitchens’ top kitchen trends in 2014 include:
1. Matt Cabinetry: Popular in Europe for its timeless, sophisticated finish, Freedom Kitchens forecasts matt finishes as the major trend to flow through to the Australian market. “Advancements in technology mean that fingerprints, often associated with matt cabinetry, may now be a thing of the past,” says Jenny. “Our new range is available in a stunning colour palette and will suit those seeking a contemporary, high-end designer look.”
2. Timber: A significant trend at EuroCucina this year was timber; its application extending far beyond cabinet doors. “No part of the kitchen is immune to timber at the moment with shelving, benchtops, doors and drawers all receiving a timber makeover. The options are endless when you start to play around with various timber, texture and colour combinations.”
3. Moody Colours and Metallic Accents: The moody palette of black, dark greys and blues juxtaposed with shiny accents is dominating European catwalks and homewares – a sure-fire sign, suggests Jenny, that kitchens will follow suit. “The new range of classic bold colours provide a neutral base that works well with glamorous metallic accents, such as handles and lighting in silver and copper.”
4. Clean Lines: Locally and globally, homeowners are seeking more chic and less fuss. “The new integrated handle by Freedom Kitchens is ideal for achieving a very clean, modern look. Its simple finger pull system coordinates with cabinetry colour selection and is a classy option,” says Jenny. “Another concept gaining popularity is inner-drawers behind cabinet doors – you get the storage benefits of drawers whilst maintaining consistent vertical lines on the outside.”
5. Quartz surfaces: Rapidly becoming the benchtop of choice, quartz tops such as Caesarstone are hygienic and easy to maintain. “Colours in the new range that imitate marble and concrete are stunning and will be hugely popular for a fraction of the price of the real thing,” says Jenny. “Thinner tops in 12-20mm are also back in vogue after years of thicker tops dominating the scene.”
