Among large Scandi kitchens, this one makes to Perth’s best list

Welcome to the Scandinavian-inspired kitchen that went from a shabby ‘70s kitchen to a modern marvel, boasting angular overtones and an industrial accent.

The main run of the cabinetry stretches over 4.5m as it exaggerates the raked ceiling and pulls the eye skyward. Keeping the existing bay windows to the left of the kitchen, the design team from Western Cabinets placed the integrated appliances on the back wall. The rear elevation is designed to house the main oven, combi microwave, integrated family-sized fridge and ample pantry storage. The induction cooktop is placed to the left of the appliances with large drawers positioned below, while the statement stand-alone classic matt-black Falmec rangehood draws attention to the expansive height of the ceilings.

The oversized rectangular island is centrally positioned and offers an abundance of drawer storage. The subtle grey tones of the textured panels to the rear of the island bring softness to the palette and warmth to the design. Meanwhile, a two-way breakfast bar lifts the island as it overlaps into the large-scale entryway linking the kitchen to the living area.

The design is highly functional, with careful consideration given to the selection of materials. In keeping with the modern transformation, chalky greys and matt blacks were combined with concrete benches, marble and oak. The contrasting matt-black separated hood sits beautifully against the sheeted marble splashback as chalky grey cabinetry pops from the traditional white walls.

We wouldn’t mind buttering a muffin in this unique kitchen that’s fresh and highly functional, with subtle industrial vibes.
