She approached the skilled team at Dezign Kitchens to do the job, requesting an open-plan space. The team took the time to understand her vision and incorporated her requests when designing the area. Given they were presented with a blank canvas, the design team began by providing input in the architectural layout of the space. They made sure the services and structural features they needed were placed correctly so that they could design an exceptional culinary space.

Ultimately, this kitchen was designed to create a seamless transition between the indoor living space and the outdoor entertainment area and its outdoor kitchen. The homeowner requested a “modernish” design that complemented the rest of her home’s contemporary feel. The design team took great care when choosing materials, and ultimately landed on a mix of natural materials. They chose timber Laminex wall cabinets, solid timber battens on the island, and a showstopping quartzite feature island benchtop.

The open-plan design helps the kitchen feel airy and roomy, while the window splashback above the sink provides ample natural light and a delightful view of the pool and entertaining area. There’s plenty of cabinetry for storage, and a wine fridge is integrated into the island for easy access when entertaining. While the kitchen’s dark, moody colours help create a contemporary feel, there’s a real sense of calm and tranquillity too. This creates the perfect ambience for this lively homeowner, who loves cooking nightly meals and entertaining guests.

Familiar as we’ve become with internet shopping, ordering a new kitchen and laundry online isn’t something many would immediately consider. But that’s exactly what the owners of this sophisticated modern home did, and the quality of the result, and speed of production, suggest this could be the way of the future.

To meet the owners’ tight deadlines, the sinks, tapware, cabinetry, in OptiMatt Anthracite, and countertops, in Marabella by Stone Ambassador, were all ordered online for the kitchen and laundry from the MODULR+ range.

The integrated InAlto dishwasher, microwave, cooktop, oven and rangehood were chosen from the online offerings too, as were the Voda profile handles and internal storage solutions. It was the Australian-made joinery, manufactured using a revolutionary and highly durable bonding technique, that really simplified the process though, arriving pre-assembled — with customised storage solutions and soft-close drawers already installed — within weeks.

The sleek, minimalist kitchen and laundry were functional almost immediately and the resulting kitchen layout caters perfectly to the need for ample storage and easy entertaining. Tall overhead cabinets negate the need for bulkheads and optimise space, while a generous floor plan, large island and breakfast bar allow for small and large gatherings.

A hexagonal-tiled splashback in matt black helps to unify the space, and leather barstools and glass pendants over the island add character, culminating in a bespoke look that belies the ease of its creation.

Its classic yet fresh look can bring a kitchen alive and give it that homely feel many families want for their heart of the home. This kitchen is located in a newly built casual living space added at the back of the house. It needed to be highly functional for its busy family, who love to cook and entertain. Due to the large space available, compromising on design features was not necessary. The sleek white island is the centre-piece of the room, with detail in the joinery column around the island providing a strong statement of crafted workmanship.

Creating an area for small appliances, where pocket doors could be left open when in use without obstructing the working space, was a must. The Blum LEGRABOX drawer system within the pantries improves functionality and accessibility while also looking stylish. The cooking zone, with its wall ovens, required plenty of bench space and a powerful extraction system. With a bounty of available room, the kitchen is able to accommodate both the cook and their keen diners, perfectly suited to a family.

Thanks to e&s, the appliances were perfectly chosen for the space and include a quality Siemens oven, cooktop and rangehood and a Bosch dishwasher.

Phoenix tapware has also been selected, as well as a Franke sink and Fisher & Paykel fridge. Black and stainless-steel accents complement the all-white kitchen.

The benchtops are Caesarstone Frosty Carina, and the 3m island has a waterfall edge. There are a number of beautiful, fixed windows that welcome in plenty of natural light.

The soaring, expansive ceiling invites you to look upwards. The void did create some space restrictions in the kitchen, but this was overcome with smart and effective storage solutions – an example of a modern and contemporary kitchen made with quality appliances.

The butler’s pantry offers plenty of space and storage, as well as more preparation room and another sink. Its clever design makes it feel like a continuation of the kitchen and not a separate space.

In order to create a modern and contemporary kitchen with quality appliances, it was important that a light-colour palette and handle less cabinetry and drawers were used to create clean lines. The kitchen doesn’t overshadow the other open plan spaces but sits comfortably alongside them.

With the help of Calibre Built Developments, Maddie began her renovation journey in 2019.

While stripping out the internals of the home, the build team uncovered beautiful Victorian-style ceilings that had been covered over years before. These treasures had a big impact on the design potential of the renovation. Maddie chose to honour the heritage of the home by including features such as ceiling roses and traditional cornices in the rebuild that would reflect this rediscovered history.

An alluring neutral colour palette was chosen for the home, with tone-on-tone textures added to achieve an earthy modern feel throughout, while steel windows provide a contemporary contrast against white walls.

The kitchen, designed by Co Kitchens and BuildHer Collective, is the heart of the home. It utilises a beautiful selections of light timber Laminex cabinetry, white Caesarstone countertops and organic brass Pegasi tapware by Faucet Strommen. “We chose Faucet Strommen because we were looking for tapware that was durable and beautiful,” says homeowner Maddie. “I searched far and wide for scratch-resistant tapware and Faucet Strommen was the only brand that passed my test.”

The second stage of the project included bathroom renovations that also utilised the raw brushed brass of the Pegasi collection from Faucet Strommen, ensuring a cohesive design throughout the home.

In the children’s ensuite, a child-friendly inset bathtub is surrounded by charming mosaic wall tiles that meet a stunning pink Pavlova terrazzo floor tile, giving the space added pizazz. An elegant ivory concrete basin from Nood Co and warm timber vanity from Ingrain Designs belies the surprisingly budget-friendly space. The main bathroom features warm pink wall tiles that sit comfortably with the appealing patina of the tapware, working beautifully with the custom timber vanity.

Neutral yet full of character, these bathroom spaces function perfectly for a modern family yet suggest a throwback to the heritage of the original structure of the home thanks to their warm design.
