Designed by Paul Coulson of Earthborne by Design, this compact yet highly functional U-shaped kitchen is a testament to stylish apartment living.
Award Category | Small Kitchens – Finalist
Seamlessly flowing from kitchen to dining space to living room, the decidedly accessible U-shaped layout easily facilitates entertaining despite the condensed floorplan.
A peninsula with a curved end extends the length of the kitchen, offering breakfast bar seating and defining the cooking zone. Polytech melamine in an appealing light wood tone forms upper cabinetry, as well as fronting the full-length integrated fridge. Lower cabinetry in white keeps the whole space light and bright, enhancing the sense of space and keeping the colour palette neutral.
Aiding the stylishly streamlined design is a marble-look engineered stone that covers the benchtops and continues up the walls to form a seamless splashback. An integrated dishwasher, Electrolux oven and gas cooktop, as well as an in-built microwave contribute all the essential appliances needed to cook up a storm. Brushed nickel tapware and a double-bowl sink keep the colour palette cool and contemporary.
Matching the curve at the end of the breakfast bar is a set of open shelves that extends the upper cabinetry out into the dining zone. Made of the same Polytech melamine, the shelving provides space for cookbooks and knick-knacks, giving a homeowner an opportunity to add their personal touch. Opposite the kitchen, a small bar area sports the same curved open shelving and upper cabinetry, contributing additional storage for the kitchen zone. The lower half of the bar space can be used as a working desk, while a drinks fridge provides room for the bubbly when it comes time to get the party started.
