“The designer’s brief was to recreate the provincial cabinetry look of France’s Loire Valley chateaus. A commanding 2700mm richly panelled mantel facade dominates the kitchen, complemented by an imposing 2700mm x 1400mm curved-end island bench. Matching neo-classical fluted columns, panels, corbels and dentil moulding heighten the sense of timeless grandeur. The lushness of the beige marble tops is intensified by the richness of the tone–on-tone hand-painted American oak cabinetry and the opulence of the matching marble floors. The cabinet grooves were shadow-painted and the whole kitchen was waxed and buffed to a mellow aged finish. Five separately switched areas provide focused task and ambient lighting. The lit glass cabinets adjoining the sink showcase the owner’s favourite possessions. Designed for regular entertainment, the kitchen’s five separate working areas allow the cook and assistants plenty of options when preparing elaborate dinners for guests.”
