The vibrant splashback adds a dramatic contrast in this multifunctional kitchen. Not only is it beautiful – it’s a place for meals, homework or just hanging out.
“When the owners of this large Sydney home bought the house some years ago, the cathedral ceiling above the living room was a major attraction, but the space beneath it was in need of rejuvenation. After consulting their architects, the homeowners asked us to design a new kitchen to make better use of the space and to take advantage of the abundance of natural light from above and through the adjacent glass doors to the garden and outdoor entertaining area. My brief was to create a central hub for the family to meet and socialise. More than just a kitchen, it would be a place to have meals, to do homework or just to hang out. Having plenty of storage was essential to minimise clutter, so floor-to-ceiling cabinets were included along with a huge walk-in pantry hidden behind the tall cabinets. The two-tone kitchen defines the room space – tall wall cabinets finished in Laminex Espresso and floor cabinets and an island bench finished in Whisper White polyurethane – while the Zoom Red glass splashback provides a dramatic contrast. The mitred essastone benchtop in New Basmati on all surfaces adds an elegant and functional feature. The result is a family-friendly space perfectly suited to both everyday living and sophisticated entertaining.”
