Discover the Stunning Design of an Entertainer’s Kitchen in Tropical Queensland

This stunning entertainer’s kitchen is a study in storage and perspective.

A sunny and open space flooded with the natural light that reflects its tropical Queensland locale, the current sleek and streamlined design of this entertainer’s kitchen is a satisfying replacement for the cramped and closed-off room that once graced this house.

Originally half the size, lacking in storage and cut off from the rest of the home, the kitchen needed to reflect the owners’ lifestyle and offer greater functionality. With a love of cooking and entertaining, a need for space to incorporate a large list of gourmet appliances was a must for these homeowners. An array of storage options and a great deal more space to work in were their other main requirements.

To meet the clients’ needs, kitchen design firm Enigma Interiors opened up the space to create a new culinary haven that would match the rest of the immense square footage of this large family home. With storage in mind, a spacious prep kitchen was created along the rear of the room. Wrapped across two sides with sliding windows, ventilation and natural light is never a problem. A wok burner, in-built oven, dishwasher, sink, fridge and floor-to-ceiling open shelving are just a few of the amenities that give the prep room complete functionality.

An open window between the prep and the main kitchens joins the two rooms visually and keeps the chef in the action. Timber accents used throughout both spaces form open shelving and display nooks inset into the cabinetry and the main kitchen island, pulling out the warm tones threaded throughout the stone countertops and adding visual cues that break up the two-tone cabinetry.

The large kitchen island is a design statement of its own. A bold block of striking Sarah Noir stone forms half the structure, which has been used in other spaces throughout the home, while a contrasting Mont Blanc stone was used for the benchtops and as an end piece for the island. Inlaid with a timber shelf, the immense island not only offers plenty of seating and room to entertain, it also helps to define the large space within the open floor plan.

As an added design element, the kitchen island lines up with the recessed ceiling in the room, ensuring the dimensions for the new kitchen fit seamlessly within the home and generate an easy flow through the adjoining living and dining spaces.

From the solid timber floors to the stunning matched stone and glass-fronted display cabinets, this spacious and modern kitchen is a bold design statement that nonetheless sits seamlessly within the home’s existing aesthetic.
