This kitchen proves that subtle inclusions, such as corbels, crowns and fixtures in antique finishes, offer a colonial look to a modern kitchen
“The beauty of this kitchen is that underneath the colonial charm of the external design lies a very contemporary room. The previous kitchen was seriously lacking both storage and work areas and did little to complement the rest of the elegantly styled home, so a complete overhaul was necessary in order to give the clients the space they desired.
To match the rest of the home’s aesthetics, we employed provincially styled accessories such as the mantel and corbels over the rangehood, ornate kickboards and Roman-edged cabinetry and glass doors.
To match the doors, routed panels and rosettes were added to the ends of the island bench, which was also finished with corbels on the side. A lamb’s tongue edge to the granite benchtop was created to match the other benches.
The look is enhanced by even the smallest of fixtures, such as the diecast Antique Pewter handles and in particular the chandelier over the dining area, which lends a particular charm when preparing gourmet meals and entertaining guests. The dining area also creates a special environment in which to look out to the magnificent garden and pool, the deep blue of the granite mirroring the shadowed waters of the pool in the morning and afternoon.”
