This difficultly-shaped kitchen was given a total facelift, embracing rustic and industrial design elements.
“This character-packed home was a 100-year-old bottle shop before being converted. It is full of eclectic and rustic furniture, polished concrete floors, exposed bricks and timber. These elements heavily influenced the kitchen design and choice of materials. The clients are a young and artistic couple who wanted a kitchen that would complement the building’s heritage and the style of their home, but had all the modern conveniences. It was a difficult-shaped room to work with and, due to the age of the building, nothing was square. Building work was needed and the plumbing had to be completely relocated. The finish on the cabinet doors is actually a textured cold-press vinyl from Albedor that captures the realistic feel and character of natural timber without the required maintenance. My favourite parts are the recycled timber shelving and antiqued black mirrored splashback that reflects the outdoor pizza oven and entertaining area. This integrates the two areas and, as the clients love cooking and entertaining, it ensures no one will ever feel isolated in either area. The subway-tiled splashback was meant to be the subtle wall; however, it’s become a striking focal point in this sleek and distinctive kitchen.”
