“The winning formula for this new modern kitchen design was having a great aesthetic that was respectful to the home’s mid-century heritage. Designing a space that works for modern living while being kind to a home’s history is something the team at Retreat Design pride ourselves on doing well.”

“This family home was no exception, having been gracefully restored and maintained over the years by the owners, the kitchen renovation completes the restoration of this lovely abode.

Matt white laminate cabinetry was paired with Caesarstone Clamshell surfaces for an understated and elegant finish. This allowed the traditional polished floorboards to feature as an ode to a different era of the home. Bi-folding windows onto the patio created unique functionality, with Caesarstone used again for a stone shelf outside the window.

There is something very special about loving a period home, tending to the structures’ needs over time and taking the extra effort to ensure modern design decisions are considered and sit side-by-side with a home’s history. Creating new spaces while maintaining a home’s history requires a delicate hand and considered approach. The end result for these clients is modern space that is functional, clean and bright while celebrating the home’s history.”
