A travel inspired kitchen

These homeowners wanted to see the countries they have travelled to reflected in their new space

For some homeowners it’s not enough to just cook the foreign food they love – they want their homes to reflect the places they’ve been. This was certainly the case with this kitchen’s owners, who approached Kim Duffin Design to create a cooking space that reflected the Asian countries they enjoyed travelling to.

Another feature of the brief provided was to create a space that allowed entertaining and seamless connection between the kitchen, dining and living spaces to the balcony.

To bring this vision to life Kim Duffin utilised a rich colour palette of green and blue plus custom designed bamboo printed splashback. The result is a fresh and contemporary kitchen design that suits the rest of the home’s collection of Asian art. Meanwhile the linear and defined cabinet design brings more modern influences typically seen in European kitchen designs.

In order to meet the clients’ request for more open space and connection between the home’s living areas a typical gallery kitchen design was chosen for how it relates to the hallway (moving between entry door, bedrooms and living areas). Flow from preparation of the food in the kitchen to delivery in the dining area is seamless.
