Justin Hutchinson worked with Cosh Living through its in-house brand Kett to give the Otway dining setting a signature Australian identity
The Otway Dining armchair
The Otway armchair stands out with its simple curvilinear form, complementing the human body. The smooth, rounded legs create a junction that provides an elegant design while also remaining practical and comfortable. Otway combines fine woodworking with modern production, creating a signature piece of designer indoor furniture for the home or workplace.
Each timber part of the armchair’s design has been crafted to make the greater whole. The components of the chair all fulfill a role that results in a simple but strong design. Steam has been used to bend the timber arms and back support; which provides simplicity in form while ensuring that the curves anchor the chair seamlessly and embrace the sitter. The seat and back cushions, available in soft leather or fabric, provide exactly the right blend of comfort and support.
The Otway Dining table
Defined by its soft timber profile and evocative of the understory of the giant forests at Cape Otway (along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road), the design has an understated but enduring quality. The timber for every table is carefully sourced, methodically measured and defined by the hands of a true craftsperson. The raw yet refined sense of beauty and elegance of the Otway forest is captured in the solid frame that falls away under the table only to reunite at the connection of the four towering legs.
The table’s design is the result of a range of small innovations, which combined produce an uncompromising level of honesty with refined precision and accuracy. This translates the final form into a strikingly smooth, flat and robust timber table that is able to seat up to ten people.
