The owners of this spectacular residence wanted a four-bedroom home with separate living zones. Furthermore, they wanted the design to maximise the available views of the Maribyrnong River while still maintaining privacy from the neighbourhood.
Working on a vacant corner block became an initial hurdle as the team at Urbayne Homes had an odd-shaped block upon which to design and build the home. The exterior design features strong horizontal lines contrasted by the solid wall and balcony. Created to be in harmony with the natural shape of the block, the house stands at commanding attention at the corner of busy roads. The inspiration for this geometric design came from the surrounding Maribyrnong landscape and river, as well as the locally iconic Flemington Racecourse and historic Jacks Magazine.
The double-height entry design enabled an avenue of natural light to stream into the foyer and has become a standout feature of the home, second only to the views. Inside, spotted gum timber has been used for the flooring and produces a fresh, light atmosphere in the kitchen and living zones of the ground floor. Matching spotted gum treads have also been utilised on the timber and glass feature staircase, which spirals up to the first floor near the entrance of the home.
Dulux Vivid White has been used on the walls of the kitchen and dining to enhance the space. The bright downlights reflect off white gloss vinyl wrap cabinetry from Parbury for a sleek modern appearance. The kitchen benchtops from Ceaserstone in Seattle Sky emanate this same clean, contemporary style, while the island bench provides a roomy environment for meal preparation. A unique feature of the kitchen is the availability of the inspiring view. Instead of installing a splashback, a window overlooking the river has been incorporated into the design.
Upstairs, a casual living area has been provided just inside from the balcony and is a great space for entertaining guests. Interior designer Susan Lovrencic of Selective Interiors has used splashes of red infused with coffee and chocolate brown textures to amplify the room.
The magnificent master bedroom encompasses a luxurious ensuite with matching his and her sinks, and a mixture of white and gold fixtures. With dual entry either side of the bed, the ensuite is easily accessible and creates a unique flavour to the room. It is in perfect harmony to the main bathroom where a deep, long bath is an ultimate destination for relaxation. Scala tapware has been used in both bathrooms and reinforces the modern ambience.
Using cutting-edge design, cleverly complemented by contrasting, natural finishes, Urbayne Homes live and breathe with an abundance of light and the best use of the available space.
Urbayne Homes has a style that is contemporary yet timeless, which is evident in this understated yet outstanding Maribyrnong home.
