Contemporary, light-filled duplex

M.A.G Constructions overcome the challenges associated with duplex design to create an open-plan, light-filled dwelling that has the feel of a standalone home.

“With a large internal light well and 3m high ceilings, this home is filled with natural light.

Being a duplex, our main focus with this project was to ensure the design allowed adequate natural sunlight to reach all areas of the house. Duplex homes often contain dark areas due to the shared wall. To combat this we designed the house around an internal staircase.  The 6m stair void not only looks great, but also acts as a natural light well that illuminates the furthest points of the house.

The ground floor was designed for alfresco entertaining with a central, walk around kitchen and sliding stacker doors that open up to connect the living area and outdoor patio, and provide a view of the manicured gardens beyond.

Upstairs, the house features four oversized bedrooms with 4.5m raked ceilings and high windows that allow cross ventilation and help cool the rooms during summer. The main bedroom boasts water views, a large walk in wardrobe and ensuite with a double basin vanity.”

WE LOVE: How the open-plan layout makes this duplex feel like a standalone home.
