For many, the blurring of lines between work and home has altered the way we use our internal spaces in recent years, so it makes sense that our interiors adapt accordingly.

Finding the balance can prove challenging, especially in compact spaces, but this cleverly conceived Häcker Australia design provides a lesson in work/life harmony.

The clients’ brief, for both a functional kitchen and office space that invoked a sense of warmth and calm, has been achieved with dark Häcker joinery, in Walnut Bali and Laser Soft Black, forming the basis of the combined kitchen, dining and home office zone.
Linear black-matt handles, an understated chrome mixer, the integration of kitchen appliances, and a minimalist glass cooktop, together with discreet storage in the home office area, help create the sophisticated, seamless flow. A stepped-down benchtop performs double-duty as both a dining and meeting table.

Of course, the innate flexibility of the durable, high-quality German-manufactured product range — which offers customised joinery for every room of the home — has been key to realising this space’s ingenuity. Häcker kitchens have been made by skilled tradespeople in Rodinghausen, Germany, for more than 120 years, and it shows. The iconic brand’s history is implicit in the efficiency, high-end technology and refinement of this space — European style, completely at home in an urban Australian landscape.
