Rimless Tornado Flush can impact your hygiene, water efficiency and maintenance in the bathroom. It’s flush versus flush on our website today — and we’re here to help you make the best toilet selection, along with the team from MyHomeware.

By Lauren Clarke

When it comes to choosing a toilet for your home, whether you’re leaning toward a back to wall toilet or a wall hung toilet, the flush should be a key consideration. Undoubtedly one of the most popular choices today is the Rimless Tornado Flush.

What is the Rimless Tornado Flush?

The Rimless Tornado Flush is a high-efficiency flushing system that uses a powerful swirling motion to clean the bowl more effectively than traditional flushes. A powerful 360-degree swirling motion ensures all areas of the bowl are thoroughly cleaned, unlike traditional flushing, which relies on downward jets and gravity to clean the bowl.

MyHomeware

The power of this tornado flush removes waste more efficiently which reduces the need for frequent scrubbing. This means you spend less time in the bathroom cleaning — and who doesn’t want that? This also results in less money spent on cleaning supplies over time, which helps make up for the price difference between this and a standard flushing toilet.

Another saving when it comes to the Rimless Tornado toilet is in the water usage. This flush uses approximately 4.5 litres of water per flush — up to 30 per cent less than a standard flushing system. This not only is good for your water bill but great for the environment as we all strive to leave a small carbon footprint.

The Hygiene Difference

Undoubtedly one of the biggest benefits of the Rimless Tornado toilet is in the hygiene. The absence of a rim eliminates hidden spaces where germs and mould can accumulate, making it a more hygienic option than a standard toilet. It also removes more residue than a standard flush, creating a cleaner experience overall.

That’s not the only benefit of this rimless design. In addition to exposing any potential bacteria hiding near the lid of the bowl, rimless designs also reduce wear and tear, increasing the longevity of the toilet.

Flush versus Flush

When it comes to comparing the Rimless Tornado Flush with a standard one, there are many factors to consider.

MyHomeware

Water use: Standard flush systems may require 6 litres or more per flush, while tornado flush toilets typically use around 4.5 litres, reducing water consumption significantly.

Dual-flush systems can also use less water, although it’s important to note that the Rimless Tornado Flush also ensures better cleaning efficiency than a dual-flush system with the same or reduced water usage.

Cleaning efficiency: Standard toilets often leave residue and require more frequent manual cleaning, whereas tornado flush systems minimise stains and residue buildup.

Suitability for Different Bathroom Types: While tornado flush is excellent for modern homes and commercial bathrooms requiring higher hygiene, standard flush toilets might still be preferred in budget-sensitive projects.

MyHomeware

How to choose?

There are many factors to consider when determining which flush is right for you. We all want better hygiene, less maintenance and a better eco outcome from out toilet experience — but what else should you think about before committing to a Rimless Tornado Flush product?

MyHomeware

Style and design: Rimless Tornado Flush toilets come in a variety of models, including back to wall toilets and wall hung. However all you need to do is look inside a bathroom showroom near you to realise that the designs of each toilet can be dramatically different. Consider the design aesthetic of your space before purchasing.

MyHomeware

The price difference: Tornado Rimless Flush toilets may have a slightly higher initial purchase price than a standard flush toilet suite, which is undoubtedly a more budget toilet option. Having said this, the long-term savings in cleaning products and reduced water consumption are definitely something to keep in mind when making your decision.

Installation considerations: While most rimless tornado toilets are easy to install, factors such as plumbing compatibility and available space should be assessed.

Super cleanly and eco-friendly, the bidet is a game-changer in the bathroom. We take a look at some of the key differences between the electric and non-electric bidet and showcase some of our favourite products from MyHomeware.

By Lauren Clarke

There’s no denying that the bidet is rising in popularity. This addition to your bathroom is lauded not only for its practical function but its eco-friendly benefits, encouraging less waste and a more hygienic outcome for the user. Whether you’re new to the world of the bidet toilet or an experienced user, refreshing yourself on the bidet basics before you make your next purchase will result in the best toilet experience for you.

The Bidet beginnings

The bidet’s origins can be traced back to 18th Century France where they were first enjoyed by members of the nobility. The word ‘bidet’ itself is said to reference the straddle-style seating position used while washing oneself on this device. Bidets soon spread throughout the upper echelons of European society, with the Queen of Naples and Sicily even requesting a bidet for her own personal use.

MyHomeware

In the 1900s, plumbing improvements resulted in dramatic upgrades to the bidet. No longer was it a simple basin but it also featured an adjustable spray nozzle and warm water.

But it was during the early 1980s when this luxury item really reached new heights. The electric bidet was introduced in Japan, with the bidet experience becoming more luxurious. Many modern toilets now integrate bidet functions, including some smart toilets. And then, as we became more conscious of waste product in the environment and technology advanced, making production more affordable, the bidet hit the mainstream, making it accessible to everyone — and it’s here to stay.

MyHomeware

The two main types of bidet available in Australia are the electric and non-electric. Both improve personal hygiene by using water to clean instead of toilet paper — but there are many differences between these two products.

Below, we’ll take a look at some of the key differences between these two products.

Ease of use and overall experience

The electric bidet is a luxurious experience. Users can control the warmth and intensity of the water spray for personalised comfort and effective cleaning. Heated smart bidet seats – like the Japanese commode – add to the comfort levels, particularly in colder climates — products like the Kohler Smart Toilet even feature a remote control, allowing you to adjust settings with ease.

MyHomeware

By comparison, the non-electric bidets operate using water pressure alone, eliminating the need for electrical components. This means they don’t have all the bells and whistles of their electric counterparts — but it does make installation easier. Non-electric bidets can be connected directly to your existing toilet, whether you have a rimless toilet suite or another kind of product, without needing a power outlet. And, with fewer electric components, non-electric bidets require less servicing than their electric counterparts and have a longer lifespan.

This makes the non-electric bidet a cheaper option, saving you money long-term.

Electric bidet pros: More features, higher levels of comfort and a luxurious spa-like experience overall.

Non-electric bidet pros: Easier installation and reduced price in purchase and maintenance over the years.

Eco Friendly

Both electric and non-electric bidets are great for the environment. Less paper waste helps our planet.

Non-electric bidets, however, have a smaller carbon footprint due to their reduced electricity use. They also use a direct water connection, making them efficient without extra energy consumption.

MyHomeware

Electric bidets aren’t as eco-friendly as their non-electric counterparts, but their experience is undeniably more luxurious — and it’s still better than clogging the drains with paper.

Electric bidet pros: So luxurious, and still better for the environment than no bidet at all.

Non-electric bidet pros: Reduced electricity use and a direct water connection make these efficient without the extra energy consumption.

Maintenance

No one lists ‘cleaning the toilet’ as their favourite recreational activity — and with an electric bidet, your cleaning routine is reduced. Self-cleaning nozzles improve hygiene by automatically sanitising the nozzle before and after use.

On the flip side, electric models may require occasional servicing and filter replacements, while non-electric options require minimal upkeep.

Electric bidet pros: Reduce day-to-day maintenance and keep your hygiene on point with self-cleaning nozzles.

Non-electric bidet pros: Save money with minimal upkeep when compared with the servicing and filter replacement requirements of the electric bidet models.

Suitability and accessibility

The electric bidet is suited to a variety of users. Since it’s able to be controlled via the touch of a button, electric bidets are ideal for families with children and those looking for a premium experience. It also can provide a disabled toilet solution for those with mobility issues.

Non-electric bidets are perfect for those seeking a budget-friendly, easy-to-use alternative who still want to consider the environment and reduce their carbon footprint.

MyHomeware

Electric bidet pros: Ideal for anyone seeking a luxurious bathroom experience, including those with children or reduced mobility issues.

MyHomeware

MyHomeware MyHomeware

Non-electric bidet pros: Perfect for those looking to minimise their carbon footprint with maximising their hygiene.

The Verdict

Whether an electric or non-electric bidet is right for you does come down to your lifestyle — but both are great additions to your toilet. If you have the budget and value a spa-like bathroom experience, you cannot beat the electric. If you simply want to reduce your carbon footprint without breaking the bank, non-electric bidets cannot be beaten when searching for a more budget toilet experience.

There is one thing we know for sure. Whether you’re choosing electric or non-electric, you will be reducing your toilet paper use, resulting in long-term savings and an eco-friendly bathroom experience.

Whichever type of bidet you decide on, you can’t go past MyHomeware to find the right bidet for you. MyHomeware offers premium and budget-friendly toilet options, including rimless and tornado flush models. The company provides fast delivery nationwide and comprehensive customer support with customer-friendly policies, including 365-day returns and price-beat guarantees.

Check out the easy-to-navigate website today to discover the best bathroom supplies or visit a bathroom showroom near you.

For sales and enquiries, contact 02 8850 0111 or email MyHomeware today.

In Australia you need a licensed plumber to correctly install your bidet, whether electric or non-electric. This is to ensure it is done safely and correctly.

Product Picks

MyHomeware offers a range of fabulous bidet solutions. Here are three of our favourites.

The Electric Intelligent Toilet Cover Seat with Instant Heating and Self-cleaning for toilet is an affordable electric bidet that allows you to heat the water and the toilet seat when it’s plugged in—but if you’d like to operate it as a non-electric bidet, all you need to do is unplug. It includes a night light and a self-cleaning nozzle in its features and is a fantastic bidet option.

If you’re seeking a premium bidet experience, you can’t go past the Intelligent Electric Toilet Cover Seat with Instant Water Heating and Air Dryer for toilet. This bidet features a stylish slimline design and a powerful built-in pump to give you better water pressure. A curved fully stainless steel nozzle with removable tip provides better hygiene, and the air dryer benefits you while keeping the seat more hygienic.

For those on a budget, the Bathroom Qubist Back To Wall Bidet with Tap Hole Ceramic gets the job done while keeping your carbon footprint low. This floor-mounted product features modern clean lines in full vitreous china.

The homeowners needed a modern update to their original ’80s bathroom, so they approached Vance Living with a clear brief.

Timeless Style | Vance Living

They were after a simple yet highly functional bathroom suitable for their children and their guests alike. The space needed to be practical, with a modern yet timeless design.

The layout the design and build team ultimately settled on is fully functional, yet very aesthetically appealing too. The custom vanity and mirror cabinetry, open shelving and the shower niches provide an abundance of storage solutions. The fully tiled walls and floors create interest, while facilitating easy cleaning.

Timeless Style | Vance Living

The placement of the wall tiles was a strategic choice; while they command attention, they also highlight the quality tapware as a feature. The custom clear shower screen was built into a niche, creating the illusion of a larger space. The room gets plenty of natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling window by the bath – which incidentally also facilitates a relaxing ambience for when the bath is in use. As it’s finished with fluted glass, it allows for a private and intimate space. Modern, tranquil and brimming with functionality, this bathroom is a study in fit-for-purpose yet visually appealing design.

In the world of bathroom design, the smallest details often make the biggest impact. The Portrait Hinges introduce a refined new shape to the Australian market – the first of its kind in 30 years, offering designers and homeowners an elegant alternative to traditional shower hardware.

Unlike conventional shower hinges, which are short, wide, and positioned horizontally, these hinges take a fresh, vertically oriented approach – mirroring the proportions of tall, frameless shower screens. They are also 30 percent thinner than traditional hinges. The result is a sleek, cohesive aesthetic that enhances the overall visual harmony of the bathroom.

Portrait Hinge

Crafted from solid brass, the Portrait Hinges combine strength with sophistication. Many shower hinges compromise on durability with weight-saving clamping plates, but these hinges are engineered to support larger glass panels with just two hinges, accommodating up to 45kg per pair. This allows for a cleaner, more minimalistic design without excessive hardware cluttering the space.

Beyond their striking form, these hinges boast intuitive functionality. A self-closing, self-centring mechanism from 25 degrees ensures seamless operation, enhancing the user experience while maintaining the pristine alignment of frameless glass doors.

Available in four sophisticated finishes – Chrome, Matt Black, Brushed Nickel, and Brushed Brass – these hinges cater to a range of design aesthetics. Whether paired with bold black fixtures for a statement look or brushed brass accents for a warm, luxurious feel, they provide the perfect finishing touch to any contemporary shower design.

This home’s original kitchen wasn’t quite what the homeowners needed. It was an inefficient layout, with a dated palette and cabinetry that didn’t make the most of the home’s ultra-high ceilings. So, the homeowners approached the expert team at Let’s Talk Kitchens & Interiors for a much-needed transformation.

They reconfigured the space to create a more practical layout for the family of five, complete with a fresh and sophisticated design that pays homage to the home’s original character.

Preserving some of the home’s existing features was important to the family, so the design team balanced modern updates with the Victorian home’s timeless charm. Shaker-style cabinetry and The English Tapware Company tapware were chosen for this exact reason. An island benchtop was added to ensure plenty of prep space, extra seating space, and a discreet yet functional home for the family’s wine fridge. American Oak timber veneer in a walnut Serenastain applied to the island’s cabinetry to inject a little extra warmth to the room, while the stark green Perini subway tile splashback adds interest.

Let’s take a moment to admire the Lapitec surface in Bianco Serena, that adorns the kitchen’s splashbacks and benchtops, including the island benchtop. Effortlessly chic yet highly durable, these surfaces are a clever choice for frequently used workspaces like kitchen benchtops. Plus, they can be adapted to suit your home’s needs. In this kitchen, drain lines have been added to the surface, to ensure excess water drains straight into the sink without creating a mess on the benchtop.

Lapitec

The surface’s subtle yet sleek veining enhances the natural stone-like character while maintaining the durability and resilience needed for everyday family life. That’s why applying this surface to the adjoining laundry and pantry, as well as the home’s bathroom, was a no-brainer.

Lapitec

Sleek, sophisticated and endlessly functional – this home’s new kitchen, as well as the newly-renovated bathroom, laundry and pantry, are exactly what the homeowners need for their busy lifestyle.

Lapitec Love

We spoke to the team at Let’s Talk Kitchens & Interiors to find out why they love using Lapitec products for their client projects.

What were the needs of this particular project that made Lapitec Bianco Serena the ideal solution?

Lapitec Bianco Serena in Satin finish was selected for this project for its durability, refined aesthetics, and practical suitability for the environment. Its full-body composition and non porous surface made it an excellent choice, ensuring hygiene and easy maintenance. With exceptional resistance to stains, heat, and moisture, it delivers both long-term functionality and timeless elegance in a high-use setting. Lapitec Bianco Serena was integrated across countertops and splashbacks in the kitchen, laundry, and bathrooms. Bianco Serena Satin paired beautifully with Dulux Reed Bed satin twopack cabinetry in the bathrooms, creating a harmonious balance of warmth and elegance.

The body veining delivered an outstanding visual outcome, enhancing the natural stonelike character while maintaining the durability and resilience needed for everyday family life.

Lapitec

How has the client reacted to the finished product?

The client has been highly impressed with the finished result, praising the material’s sophisticated appearance, durability and ease of maintenance. They have also noted how Lapitec has seamlessly integrated into their design vision while providing long-term performance benefits.

What sets Lapitec apart from other benchtop and surface materials available in Australia?

Lapitec is a full-body sintered stone, meaning it is non-porous, highly durable, and free from resins, making it an environmentally friendly and long-lasting alternative to engineered stone, porcelain, and natural stone.

How does sintered stone differ from the new engineered stone, porcelain, or natural stone?

Lapitec sintered stone is created through an advanced manufacturing process that mimics natural stone formation but eliminates weaknesses such as porosity or resin content. Unlike the new engineered stone, which contains high content of resins and it’s made by recycled glass, Lapitec is 100 per cent mineral-based, crystalline silica-free, and glass free, making it safer and more sustainable. Compared to porcelain, it has a full-body composition, ensuring consistent colour and pattern throughout the material, and unlike natural stone, it is non-porous and more resistant to environmental damage.

How does Lapitec perform against scratches, heat, and stains in high-use areas such as kitchens?

Lapitec excels in high-use areas due to its exceptional resistance to scratches, heat, and stains. It is scratch-resistant due to its dense structure, heat-resistant up to extremely high temperatures, and completely non-porous, making it resistant to stains from liquids such as wine, coffee, and oils. These qualities make it an ideal surface for kitchens, both residential and commercial.

With design trends constantly evolving, what colours, finishes, or applications make Lapitec a versatile choice for homeowners, architects and interior designers?

Lapitec is available in a variety of colours, from classic neutrals to elegant, veined patterns, and
comes in different finishes, such as lux, satin, or textured options (lithos and vesuvio), to suit a wide range of design aesthetics. Its versatility extends beyond benchtops to applications like splashbacks, flooring, cladding, and even outdoor kitchens, allowing architects and designers to create elegant spaces.

Revered world-wide, Danish design is known for its pure forms, timeless simplicity and exceptional craftsmanship, and nowhere is this more beautifully embodied than in the iconic VOLA tap range.

In 1968, VOLA revolutionised the modern tap, drawing inspiration from the original designs of Danish masters, Arne Jacobsen and Verner Overgaard. Today, VOLA continues to be celebrated for its timeless design and recognised by architects and interior designers as a hallmark of quality.

The unique VOLA modular design system offers flexibility with a near-limitless array of product configurations and a choice of bold colours and enduring finishes. Although refinements have been made over the years – focussed solely on enhancing the internal mechanisms to ensure longevity – the product proportions remain faithful to the original designs, guaranteeing
aesthetic consistency.

e&s

Every product is crafted to order in the Danish factory, where time-honoured craftsmanship combines with state-of-the-art engineering to ensure the highest standards of quality and durability. By exclusively utilising premium stainless steel and brass, and prioritising bespoke production over mass manufacturing, meticulous soldering, polishing and thorough individual hand testing is ensured.

One of VOLA’s most venerated products is the Arne Jacobsen-designed KV1 kitchen mixer tap. In fact, it is so iconic that in 1974 it was admitted into the permanent design collection of MoMA in Manhattan, and it is displayed in Copenhagen’s Designmuseum Denmark.

When the KV1 was initially introduced more than five decades ago, it represented a bold departure from traditional design aesthetics. Today, its gentle curves and detailed junctions are still celebrated, as is the effortless way it blends technology with timeless design. The mixer is fitted with ceramic disc technology, an impressive double swivel spout, and a water-saving aerator. It is most commonly found in the kitchen but can also be used for bathrooms and laundry areas.

e&s

Ensuring its design flexibility, the KV1 is available in a truly dazzling array of finishes, from vivid red, blue, green and pink to matt black and a range of marvellous metallics – brushed copper and gold, natural brass, polished chrome and more.

VOLA’s exquisite, hand-finished range is available from e&s, one of Victoria’s oldest family owned specialist kitchen, bathroom and laundry retailers. Known for high-quality appliances and products, as well as impeccable service, e&s has been highly respected within the Australian design industry since the 1960s.

You can peruse the diverse selection of premium products, including the timeless VOLA range, at one of the nine e&s showrooms across Melbourne (Abbotsford, Blackburn, Chadstone, Essendon, Geelong, Hawthorn, Moorabbin, Prahran and Preston) or the ACT showroom (Fyshwick), all of which are open seven days a week.

The drawer system also pays attention to internal organisation, recognising its significance in kitchen arrangement. This allows homeowners to customise their storage, whether they prefer easy access to spices or neatly arranged knife holders with unique internal accessory options.

Unique design and technology are key features integrated into the cabinetry of this custom Queensland home project from Sunshine Coast based builders at AUSMAR, in collaboration with the joiners at Format Kitchens, bringing a modern twist to the classic Queenslander style, embodying a vision of warmth and sophistication. The kitchen, bathroom, and wardrobe spaces are thoughtfully designed with abundant storage solutions. Rich dark wooden cabinetry provides a striking contrast to the neutral white marble textures, achieving a seamless balance of elegance and practicality in every room.

“One of the most common mistakes people make when approaching a renovation is underestimating the complexity involved at each stage of the process and thinking professional help is out of reach financially,” says Natalie. “At Place & Palette, we provide affordable expert advice on interior fit out selections, helping everyday Australians navigate the complexities of renovation with confidence and ease.” Committed to delivering premium bathroom and kitchen solutions, Place & Palette focuses on durability, quality and sustainability. “We carefully source our selection from trusted suppliers, prioritising Australian companies to ensure our clients receive the best in local quality,” says Natalie.
