With a profound business acumen and creative insight, this talented designer is turning heads in the industry.

Founder of Covesmore Solutions Group, John Allen Commins has always been creative; it’s in his DNA. From early childhood he began painting, which he still enjoys.

In the early days, John Allen developed businesses in advertising and interior design in Mauritius. He starred in a TV program that featured before-and-after segments revamping two rooms in a house. “It was fun, and so good to see and feel the happiness of the clients when discovering the new transformed rooms,” he says.

Since arriving in Australia, John has designed beds for Snooze and opened his own business venture, Covesmore Solutions Group. Work began in a garage during the global pandemic. “I came to Australia on a visa as an interior designer,” he says. “Today I am happy to be back to being my own boss again, with a wonderful team.”

Four years on, the business has a staff of 16. It has a refurbishment line with three workshops, a furniture showroom and a manufacturing workshop. John says four of his staff are from Parker Furniture. “We’ve registered the Ex Parker People as a trademark,” he explains. “We are also very grateful and thankful to have precious advice from furniture legend Tony Parker.”

This gifted designer says inspiration is a state of mind that feeds into itself. “I’m inspired when I am happy and feeling good — that energy helps me to create,” he says.

John is justifiably proud of his new brand, Amatozzi, launching August 2023. As he explains, “Amato” means beloved in Italian, and “Ozzi” pays homage to Australia, his adopted homeland. It’s a luxury furniture range that is certain to win accolades in the design industry. John says Amatozzi is all about fine lines and simplicity. “It’s a new line of customisation of luxury furniture,” he says.

John says Amatozzi was established through the dedication of a select crew. “It was team work involving other designers, upholsterers, cabinet makers and everyone in our business,” he shares. He describes his design style in furniture as modern and contemporary. “I like fine lines and simplicity, and Italian designs,” he says.

This clever designer is forging ahead with big plans for the future. “I have prepared our vision board for the next five years. One goal is to have our own academy in refurbishment, upholstery and cabinetry,” he adds.

One can’t help but think John will achieve whatever he sets out to. He says the secret to success in life and design is to let your passion drive you. “Do it, dare yourself, and have no regrets,” he says.
