Green Home Build Australia implemented a unique project in Ringwood East that placed great importance on sustainable materials and energy efficiency.
The primary objective of this project was to create a living space that excelled in both comfort and design. Instead of relying on mechanical heating and cooling, the home was constructed with a focus on harnessing the power of nature. By employing passive solar design principles, the interior naturally maintains warmth during winter and stays cool during summer.
To adhere to these principles, construction materials were carefully salvaged and recycled during the demolition process. This approach ensured that suitable materials were given a second life, preventing unnecessary waste and paying homage to the original construction.
Energy efficiency was a significant focus, resulting in the building being fully electric. It relied on a combination of solar panels and battery storage to achieve the smallest possible carbon footprint. High insulation levels were achieved through the use of Miglas AliClad double glazed windows, which featured Solos OptEma Plus soft Low-E technology. These windows not only provided excellent insulation but also allowed ample natural light into the rooms. Their sharp and natural contrast complemented the tones of timber and metal cladding that enveloped the structure.
Thanks to these sustainable design choices, the project received an impressive NatHERS rating of 8.4 stars, reflecting its commitment to environmental responsibility.
The Ringwood East Project was a recipient of the 2021 Sustainability Awards.
