This Queenslander offers an Australian take on a classic architectural style
In designing and building their Hamptons display home, the guiding mantra for the team at Garth Chapman Queenslanders was to craft a breathtaking home that faithfully represented an authentic piece of traditional architecture.
“The Hamptons display home external appeal is undeniable with its multiple gables, eave brackets and Scyon Linea cladding; also the front and rear timber verandahs that draw all the elements together,” says Stephen Havas, director, Garth Chapman Queenslanders. “Then there’s the charming dark-grey painted timber entry door, surrounded by white joinery and trims, which provides a tantalising taste of the wonders to be encountered once you step over the threshold.”
Your journey begins with the wide entry hall, which features polished American oak timber flooring, stained in a walnut colour, and wainscot timber wall trims, which show off the carpentry skills of the team. Then, as you look up, you spy the specially-designed Hamptons arch detail set into the 3m-high ceiling.
“This is a home with numerous special design features and the stairwell — a striking masterpiece that would sit well in any luxury Hamptons home — is one. There’s also the expansive living, dining and kitchen spaces that wrap around the verandah in quintessential Queenslander style,” says Stephen.
Another special feature is the window seat in the dining room. Surrounded by custom-built bookshelves and well-placed wall lights, it’s a place that draws you in and makes you want to linger. How the kitchen interacts with the living spaces and connects with the laundry and garage is also worthy of note.
The spacious kitchen is a gourmet’s dream, with Caesarstone benchtops, two-pack painted Polytec cabinetry doors and Miele appliances, including a double oven. There’s also a butler’s pantry and scullery area that provides all the storage and prep space a large modern family could need.
“Upstairs, the four generous bedrooms are intelligently separated to provide privacy for the inhabitants and there is a TV/games room where the children can do their own thing,” says Stephen. “The main bedroom, with its walk-in robe, snug and ensuite, is a parents’ oasis and the high standard of finishes is indicative of the quality and luxury to be found throughout the home.
“Our experience with these unique homes comes from decades of authentically crafting new Queenslander homes,” he continues. “Over the years, in collaboration with our clients, we have integrated Hamptons styling into many Queenslanders.
“The Garth Chapman Queenslanders’ team has an obsession for excellent design and the construction of beautiful homes through careful craftsmanship and attention to detail. Everything we do is directed by this dedication and our commitment to sharing this passion with like-minded clients.”
