German design is synonymous with durability, reliability and ingenuity, and all three qualities are certainly well represented in this show-stopping space designed by Häcker Australia — the new Australian flagship arm of the iconic German brand.
Briefed by the homeowners, the designers were tasked to create a luxurious, modern area that embraced solid form and clean lines while presenting a seamless transition from kitchen to living area. The result is a striking blend of moody colour, form and texture.
Signature Häcker cabinetry, in complementary Comet Putty Concrete Black and Vancouver Cognac Vintage Oak, conceals an abundance of storage and integrated appliances.
Integration is taken to new levels in this space, with two ovens cleverly tucked into shelving behind a retractable pocket door, a spacious pantry hidden behind vintage oak panels in the wall cavity, and a cooktop almost seamlessly incorporated into the back of the island countertop.
Subtle storage is everywhere, in the “drawers within drawers” typical of Häcker design, and in the cabinets that open on both sides of the island.
A deep-blue painted bulkhead and slatted timber feature frame the entire look, which is contrasted by the stainless steel of the sink, the chrome of the mixer and metallic satin detailing of the island legs, kickboards and silver channel cabinetry handles.
LED strip lighting set into the glass shelving of the overhead cabinetry adds a further highlight, while a burst of greenery — glimpsed through the bold, black-framed circle window — balances the space perfectly.
