President’s Message

Needless to say, this year produced very challenging conditions for the industry. In early 2020, without notice, our nation experienced the impact of COVID-19 in unimaginable ways.
Our industry, however, responded extraordinarily well. The Federal Government deemed the industry an “essential service industry” and with a strong and concerted effort from the Master Builders movement, our industry stayed open, we worked safely and followed protocols decreed by the medical and health authorities. It was and is a great credit to the industry to have remained open for business during these unprecedented times.

This year, with these extreme circumstances, the industry produced unbelievable outcomes.

Turning to this year’s awards, a record number of residential building projects were entered into the industry’s most prestigious awards program, the MBA Excellence in Housing and Pool Awards.
Our panel of judges faced the most extraordinary task of evaluating and selecting the very best projects from numerous categories, ranging from display and contract homes, to home units, house additions and renovations, energy efficiency and secondary dwellings.

On behalf of the MBA, I congratulate all entrants and winners on the high standard of construction seen in so many projects, and during a most challenging time. I also wish to thank our generous sponsors and industry partners, without whose support these awards would not be possible. And of course, our dedicated judges who freely donate their time and expertise to examine, evaluate, deliberate, and make very difficult decisions when considering all entries received.

Finally, congratulations to the Master Builder of the Year — Capital Construction & Refurbishing Pty Ltd, the Young Builder of the Year — Jake Kearns from Aspire Constructions, and the Display Home of the Year — Firstyle Homes.

The MBA thanks its dedicated panel of judges and also the generous sponsors.
