With its flexible floor plan and clever inclusions, the St Tropez home design from McDonald Jones is perfect for the changing needs of a growing family

The St Tropez is a chic, cleverly designed contemporary home that’s all about family. There are harmonious spaces where everyone can gather to relax and enjoy each other’s company, and multiple places of retreat for when some “me time” is needed.

With four bedrooms and a flexible floor plan, the St Tropez ensures a family will be equally at home when tots turn to teenagers — and beyond. Situated to the rear and side of the home, three bedrooms, a bathroom and a study nook form a “kids’ wing” with an ideally located activity room that can serve as a children’s play room or teenage retreat. The master suite, towards the front of the home, offers privacy and a quiet sanctuary for parents. What’s more, there is a home theatre room, located adjacent to the master suite, they can use to escape from the kids and their friends.
From the moment you set foot in the St Tropez, the “holiday at home” vibe is evident. The entry, which has a resort feel that creates an instant sense of relaxation, leads to a long hallway that invites the visitor through the home and into the spacious open-plan kitchen, living and dining area — and beyond that, the alfresco cabana.

The expansive, light-filled kitchen and living/dining area is the hub of the home and the place where family members can congregate at the end of the day to enjoy a meal and some quality time together. Attached to the kitchen is a butler’s pantry, which can be used for storage and food preparation. This is a real advantage when entertaining, keeping the kitchen clutter-free.
Throughout, the St Tropez is designed with style and practicality in mind, ensuring even the smallest needs of the modern family are catered for. This includes the butler’s pantry, a study nook with built-in desk, a large walk-in robe in the generous master suite, and a linen closet and TV recess in the family room.

Quality materials and premium finishes, centred on a sophisticated, resort-style black-and-white decorating scheme, have also been used throughout. Of note are the benchtops in the kitchen, laundry and study nook, along with the bathroom and ensuite vanities which feature Caesarstone White Attica. Adding a little lustre, penny rounds mother of pearl mosaic tiles were used for the splashbacks in the kitchen, butler’s pantry and laundry.

The St Tropez’s exterior design is just as striking and contemporary. This is expressed in the simple grey Colorbond roof which is offset by white rendering and rich black brickwork. The canny use of the different textures complements the clarity of the design and enhances the modern facade of the home.

To cater for each family’s individual needs, the floor plan of the St Tropez can be customised in various ways. For example, you have a choice of layouts for the kitchen, butler’s pantry and ensuite or you can add a study. With this degree of flexibility and functionality, it’s easy to see why the St Tropez is the ideal single-level family home.
