Rural retreat: a scenic Mornington Peninsula pool design

Overlooking scenic rolling green pastures, this elevated Mornington Peninsula pool with clever features and a sleek design also embodies serenity and relaxation

With its beautiful rural setting — a sloping block on the Mornington Peninsula — this contemporary pool blends perfectly into the scenic landscape and provides an enviable country view that’s almost impossible to beat. Amazingly, it’s little more than an hour from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s CBD, in Red Hill, a compact micro region of sumptuous vineyards, restaurants, food stores, artisan producers and orchards, and the site of this family’s modern new home.

The perfect placement of the pool suits the beautiful location and indoor/outdoor living. “Piers were required to suspend the pool above the ground on the sloping rural block,” explains Chris Jackson, managing director of Aquarius Pools. “You can look out from the house and deck to the pool and beyond to the rolling green pastures.” The clever design of the pool fence by o’connor and houle Architecture, in conjunction with the house builder Pope Construction and Aquarius, makes this project both unique and enables the pool to integrate seamlessly with its surrounds. The sloping timber and bluestone enable compliance with both fence and balustrading building codes.

The homeowners who built here wanted to be able to swim laps and have a safe place for their kids to play. Entertaining and a beautiful water feature were also high on their wish list. At 14.6m, the rectangular pool design boasts classic lines and is long enough for them to swim laps and large enough to cater for family fun and entertaining. Meanwhile, the unique shape of the bluestone coping really adds a dynamic element.

Aqualink iPad and iPhone control enables the family to heat the pool from any location. An automatic slat cover minimises evaporation, assists with maintaining water temperature and keeps the pool clean. Sunbather premium solar heating extends the family’s swimming season, allowing them to swim even when the Victorian chill starts to set in.
