This stunning kitchen uses different textures to inject depth and mood into a simple colour palette

“The brief was to create an open space expansive enough to invite the outdoors in, while retaining the original floor space. To achieve this, I adopted a number of astute design techniques, such as square-setting the room.

By opting to make one wall the primary storage area, it allowed another wall (in this case, the splashback) to be left as a feature without the obstruction of overhead cabinetry. This gives the area a more spacious, light and open feel.

To accentuate the distinctive nature of the wall, it was completely covered in a subtle yet beautifully rendered feature tile, the textures of which are emphasised by thoughtfully placed lighting. If pressed, I’d have to say my favourite aspect of the design would be the handles. The clients originally wanted a handle-free kitchen but didn’t want to use SERVO-DRIVE.

Using powder-coating to match the cabinetry, I managed to create a streamlined look the clients love, with added practicality. Coming in a close second is the Neolith island benchtop, which the clients chose for its natural look and easy maintenance. Neolith has amazing properties and, with its silky finish, makes this island a tactile hub of the kitchen to enjoy with family and friends.”
